Exciting
As the author ofย GENTLEMAN OF FORTUNE, The Adventures of Bartholomew Roberts - Pirate , I was eager to read Miss Rees's take on the pirate theme. I was not disappointed. Her story of two young women turning pirate was fast-moving and exciting. The history aspects were well researched and I particularly liked her portrayal of the slave trade and also the Maroons in Jamaica. The villain was suitably nasty and she built the suspense well. The denouement was a particular surprise - I didn't see that coming! If I had a criticism it was slight; I am not a fan of flashbacks. But it did not detract from my enjoyment of this novel. I would recommend it.

Another Great Book
This book is about two young women who choose to become pirates during desperate times in their lives. This book was just as good as With Child and think it's great for young teens to go on a great adventure.I can't wait to get my hands on other books by Celia Rees, such as Savoy (another pirate book).Although I think I may be a little to old for these books I still think they're great, as said by the 5 stars I gave above.

Purely and simply, A MUST-READ BOOK!
As an adult reader I found this book excellent and one that you will want to read more than once! Who says it's just for teenagers?! If you like adventure, history, romance, or thriller books, then you'll love this book. It is full of swashbuckling action!Unfortunately, the Amazon review and synopsis above gives away too much. So if you haven't read it already, don't! The less you read above, the more there is to discover! This book would make an absolutely fantastic film, so I hope someone out there buys the film rights to it!!!!

Worth Buying
Bought this, with many other books, when studying a degree module on Children's Literature and quite enjoyed it. Written for older children (teens mainly) it's a pirate story about two girls from totally different backgrounds being forced to work together to survive. They become close friends and need one another to overcome many obstacles and life threatening adventures. Probably a 4* read for a younger reader.

Great read
If you like pirates, and history I would urge people to read this book. It is beautifully written book with a great plot and storyline. It also has a very strong female lead and shows us how difficult life was for both women and slaves back in those days.

Interesting concept
I quite enjoyed this book. The characters are ok but a little 2 dimensional. The plot moves along at a diverting pace but some of the actions from the main character are just unfathomable - she could solve all her problems in one go and it becomes quite annoying that she doesn't take the obvious action.

A good read
Nicely written book, characters are believable and endearing Celia Rees takes you on an adventure and keeps you wanting to read on. Would definitely recommend.
