Vaccuum canisters for the win!
If you're searching for this item you know by now about the benefits of a Foodsaver vaccuum system. The bags help seal things for medium to long term storage. The only drawback about the bags is that they are a consistent cost factor. Consider these vaccuum canister options as an alternative for the items that you'd like to put in short to medium term storage. They have no ongoing cost to them and just on cost savings alone they are worth it. Yes, they eventually wear out I'm sure, but the serviceable lifespan is quite good so I can't see why someone should worry about eventual failure of a man made product. Do you really expect it to last forever? Compared to the cost of the bags they are pennies on the dollar over the lifespan of the product. These canisters are not the equivalent of pressure canning. One can't get the very long term storage out of these units like pressure canning because there is no heat to kill botulism (@280 degrees needed?), but they still extend the quality of your food for a "considerable" period (see Foodsaver documentation) due to the other negative factors that have been eliminated. With these canisters I can buy the large food sizes and store some of it away instead of always buying the smaller sizes that won't spoil before I can use them up. It's an absolute success in this area and I have cost savings related to buying in bigger quantities. It seems to me the cost savings from buying in large quantities will more than pay for the canisters over their lifetime... Here's an added bonus! You can place your store bought vaccuum sealed jars (jam, minced garlic, salsa, whatever the item is with a vaccuum seal) inside the canister, activate the vaccuum system until it's finished, then break the vaccuum canister seal and remove your resealed store bought goods! I saw a video on commercial vaccuum sealing that started me thinking about this as an option and it works perfectly! This takes the place of the Foodsaver jar sealer accessories that seal over the mouth of the jar, without any fuss about whether you did it right! You just have to be sure you have a canister big enough to fit the jar in, but that's it. Incidentally, it may be that Foodsaver has stopped making the jar tall enough to fit a quart canning jar inside, maybe this is why... I have one tall enough that came with my original Foodsaver package. Any jar size that fits in a canister will seal though. Best of luck with your vaccuum canister adventures. I wouldn't be without mine!

Love the containers
I have been very fortunate with my Foodsaver. I have used the Tilia/Foodsaver for over twenty years. I have the bags, the round canisters and the rectangular containers. I had one get misaligned by my spouse putting it in the dishwasher. However, it still holds its seal. The older canisters lids (with the twist knob) were flat on top and you could stack them. The new containers do not have the twist knob on top and the round lid makes it impossible to stack them. However, I find they both work great. I too have sealed items in canning jars and that also works wonderful. I keep all my fruits fresh for weeks and can enjoy them more often. I also use them to stock up on fruit (berries of all types) and watermelon so that my guest can enjoy fresh fruit for breakfast. I purchase my fruit for weeks at a time and do not worry about it going bad before it can be consumed. They are also great for storing nuts. I have not used them for storing sugar or flour. I stack them in their own cupboard with plastic between them so they do not stick together or scratch. This has kept them looking brand new. I have also made lots of home grown green beans, cooked and stored them in the canisters to keep their fresh flavor. I have both the clear and dark tinted containers. I have never put them in the dishwasher. My spouse demonstrated the error in doing that.

After more than a year, they still work like a champ!
I purchased these fifteen months ago and they have been in constant use ever since with no problems whatsoever. As a good Italian, I am a big fan of Locatelli cheese (a goats milk parmesan) and buy it in a big hunk, which lasts for a few months. It's pretty expensive and the largest canister keeps it fresh like new for the entire time. I use another canister for raisins, as I hate when they become sugary and hard, or sometimes for candies, like some amazing salted caramels I picked up that lasted forever without getting hard. The third one I use for cheddar, monterey jack, and any other cheeses we may pick up. Again, they stay fresh and don't get moldy like they do without being vacuum sealed. I am now here to buy another set because we have so many things we can use them for. For instance, when I make pasta dough, I only use half and store the other half until the following week. I would much prefer to store it in a vacuum sealed canister to preserve the color of the dough. And I'm looking forward to storing brown sugar in one so it remains soft. So many ideas, and the price is right! I am careful with these, as I have read all the reviews complaining of cracks, but I have never experienced that myself. I don't put them in the dishwasher, but rather hand wash when needed, and am careful not to drop them. If this review has been helpful, please click 'yes!'

I am very pleased with the canisters. I have had them for a few months now and am very pleased with the ease of use and performance. Dehydrated apple crisps are crispy still just like they were when made months ago. These are great for my dehydrated foods and grains. What I also like is that delicate dehydrated foods like thin bark and spinach leaves can be stored in them without them being crushed as they would be if vac sealed in bags. Also great for dehydrated foods with rough edges that puncture bags when vac sealed. Great for items you access regularly too like dehydrated rice. As some cannisters are heavy when full I use the hand held vac that i purchased and take it to the cannister rather than having to carry the full cannisters to the big vac sealer. My only frustration is that you can't buy them individually in the size you want but always have to but three in three different sizes.

Warehouse Deals provided savings that got me to purchase these containers from Food Saver. They arrived in perfect condition (despite being used) and work perfectly. Right away the blueberries, strawberries and mushrooms sitting in the fridge were put in to the two smaller containers. I expect a much longer life after storing in the Food Saver containers and will provide updates soon.

Works as expected, holds vacuum. Plastic is a bit cheap and will get haze over time and usage. Not sure how long plastic will hold up.

I've got a food saver and one canister came with it. I loved it and found 1 was not enough. I strongly recommend people purchase these. A very good way to save cooked foods.
