We use it as a precaution to keep our water tanks and water clean in our campervan. It seems to work and adds no identifiable taste or smell to the water. The top of the bottle leaks a bit though if it falls over while travelling, leaving a crusty white deposit round the top of the bottle. Keep the bottle in an extra container and try to wedge it upright.
