Real parchment made from sheepskin
This seller has several listings for different sizes of real parchment. The one I ordered was only 3" by 3", because I wanted a sample for students to touch in a class on the history of papermaking but I was trying not to spend too much on the class. It arrived about a week after I ordered it. I have never held real parchment that was made from sheepskin before, and it is interesting. The small piece that I received is very white and smooth. One side is dry and hard and feels much like the "parchment" paper that you can buy but the other side has a very slight fuzzy nap because it is the suede side of the leather it is made from. Now I may buy a larger piece because I want the students to be able to hold it and imagine a time when all documents were written on parchment. If you have a use for real parchment, I would recommend this seller.
