10 Year Old, Heavily Peated Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 70cl

Bruichladdich invest a lot of money in presentation and this is obvious when you open the cardboard box. The tube is tastefully designed in a contemporary style. The bottle is a short, stubby and heavy. The quality is so good I’m not going to recycle it as I’m turning it into a lamp stand. Last year I bought the classic laddie presentation box with two glasses and was stunned by the exceptional quality. The classic laddie isn’t peaty or smokey so it’s a good drink for quests or for a change. I like Peat and smoke so decided to try a 20cl Port Charlotte heavily peated. This really stood out against a more gentle Caol Isla I had started. The 10 year old Charlotte is certainly smoother then the unaged. They are both unique and neither disappoint. I bought the 10 year old as it was a great deal asthe Port Charlotte unaged and the laddie had been so tasty. I’m not an expert like Ralfy, Hors or the Whisky Test Dummies but I can pick out the crisp peaty smoke and a slight saltiness. 50% so a few drops of water really open the flavours, initially smooth and silky the flavours really did develop with a few drops of hard water, I will certainly try again with a mineral water as my local water is tainted somewhat by chlorine. There is an aftertaste that is a mixture of rich caramel and liquorice without being over empowering. It’s always good to share a dram with a friend unless it’s this tasty so I’m not sharing or displaying this until I’ve drank every single last drop.

Bought on a whim, didn't expect too much from it to be honest, but this is a really good peated whisky. Classic Islay malt, and superb for the price I paid on Prime day. Will definitely buy again.

A powerful smoky dram with plenty of citrus notes behind the smoke.

Wow… I love a Smokey whisky and this is 10/10. This is the first 50% abv whisky I have ever tried and I didn’t even realise that it was 50% until 30 minutes after drinking it. Given its 50%, it’s incredibly smooth and the Smokey balance is perfect. I would recommend this without a doubt!

Best I've had in years. Makers state that they tried to make the most "islay" of Islays. They Have. Taste is similar to what Laphroaig used to belike, before the dumbing down of the more affordable ones. Similar even to the G&M 1974 and 1975 Ardbegs that you could still pick up in the 1990s for £30. Unusual, very solid green bottle, embossed on rear, presented in a metal tube, nicely desined all round . What is inside is the real deal, smoky, peaty, awesome example of Islay whisky. 50 proof. value for money even at £45, which is similar to Lagavulin [now only the second best currently produced Islay], There are no negatives at all about this whisky, its a real beast.

This is a very elegantly flavoured Islay. Not too much of anything that would over power the flavour, but more than enough peat, smoke, creaminess and pepper to let tou appreciate that you’re experiencing a very well put together Islay.

If you’re a fan of Islay peated malts, this should definitely be one to try! My new favourite. And great value atm at £44.5 Sadly the second bottle I bought was broken in transit.

Purchased for husband’s birthday. Have many good wife points that should last a year at least. He loves his whiskey - you can give birth to a boy in New Zealand but apparently the Scots half will win. He’s not into possessions so both birthday and Christmas are about trawling through different whiskies for him to try, after about 20 years diligent research this has been voted the best. It’s very smooth and warm, rather than setting fire to your throat in the way down. Strong flavour but perfectly balanced. It’s a real little gem.

Wow! Dieser Whisky aus der Destillerie Bruichladdich überzeugt mich auf allen Ebenen. Es beginnt beim Auspacken der Flasche. Das Design der Flasche ist sehr edel und erinnert an eine Apothekerflasche. Sowohl die Tube als auch die Flasche sind sehr dunkel und schlicht gehalten. Lediglich eine gelbe 10, die das Mindestalter des Inhalts angibt, sticht hervor. Diese steht auch für die positiv hervorzuhebende Transparenz, die bei Bruichladdich gelebt wird. Die Anteile der verwendeten Fässer (siehe Eckdaten unten) werden genauso bekanntgegeben wie die verwendete Gerste aus lokalem Anbau (Invernesshire) und der Phenolgehalt (40ppm). Auch auf Färbung und Kühlfiltrierung wird verzichtet. Im Aroma schlägt einem sofort Rauch entgegen. Dieser erinnert mich an geräucherten Speck, der gut in einen Eintopf passen würde. Dahinter kommen maritime Noten, Zitrusfrüchte und Vanille. Mit der Zeit wird er immer weicher und die süßen Vanillenoten kommen noch deutlicher hervor. Jetzt merkt man auch langsam den Einfluss der französischen Weinfässer. Mit ein paar Tropfen Wasser wird der süße Eindruck noch stärker. Im Mund beginnt er mit einem starken Antritt. Hier sind die 50% Vol., die in der Nase noch nicht so deutlich wahrzunehmen waren, deutlich spürbar. Dennoch zeigt er sich weich und harmonisch. Der Rauch steht gar nicht so sehr im Vordergrund. Es sind mehr die Zitrusfrüchte und süße Noten von Honig und Vanille, die sich im Mund ausbreiten. Hinzu kommen salzige und würzige Eindrücke. Mit etwas Wasser habe ich den Eindruck, dass er noch cremiger wird. Im Abgang ist der Rauch weiter präsent und man hat das Gefühl, dass er langsam in Richtung Magen hinunterwabert. Der Speichelfluss möchte gar nicht aufhören. Zusammenfassend kann man sagen, dass dieser Whisky trotz der 50% Vol. sehr gut pur zu genießen ist und für sein doch noch relativ junges Alter eine unglaubliche Komplexität mit sich bringt. Das müssen hervorragende Fässer gewesen sein, die hier zum Einsatz kamen. Die Bezeichnung „Heavily Peated“ trifft zwar zu, aber der Rauch ist nicht ganz so extrem wie man es vielleicht erwarten könnte. Dafür gibt es aus gleichem Hause den „Octomore“. Der Preis bewegt sich meistens um 45-50€ herum, was ich für diesen Whisky für absolut angemessen halte. Es un whisky exquisito, elegante, redondo. Es lo que llamo una malta con integridad; sin filtrado en frío, sin color agregado y alta graduación alcoholica (50% ABV). Es un whisky sofisticado y su contenido de alcohol no se siente. Por calidad es el único whisky que repongo cada vez que se termina.
