Pack of 10 Saunders Waterford 425g ROUGH 1/4 Imperial sheets

I'm sure that this is excellent paper if you paint in the classic style of transparent Watercolour. It is tremendously well behaved. Paint stays exactly where you put it and washes spread evenly even when applied in a slapdash way. Paint lifts cleanly and easily too. It is not a very rough surface as rough papers go either and the finish is very regular and unobtrusive.(It should be borne in mind that the paper is a pronounced cream in colour. This results in rather subdued contrasts which may be unwelcome. This appeared to be shown as far whiter than it actually is in the listing.)Unfortunately for me these obedient qualities don't suit my style. I like charging granulating colour into a wash and watching it explode and spraying water onto my paintings and neither of these techniques work particularly well on the sizing on the front of this paper. It seems to insist on making everything tidy and even. I also prefer my rough paper with a less regular texture. (However I was pleased to discover that the reverse of the sheet will happily accept my way of working and has a more random surface, so am going to use this. We do after all pay for both sides of the paper and it's good to have a choice. )I think that anyone who is wishing to upgrade to an 100 % cotton paper from Bockingford will enjoy using this Saunders Waterford, which seems to use the same kind of sizing. It also has the added advantage that doesn't need stretching at this size and weight.

Love this paper. holds wet washes so well. doesn't buckle. would try the half sheet next time

I bought this paper as I neeeded a heavier weight paper for my watercolour work. Like all Sanders Waterford paper is it a joy to paint on.
