I have just opened this and it doesn't have the earth fitting. Has anyone else had this problem?

You only need earth if is a metal back box but as this is plastic it’s not required

I have a light fitting with a 2 metre cable attached to a standard plug. I want to wire in a suitable switch?

You need to run the cable to a switch then out to light if retaining plug. Make sure fuse rating in plug is suitable. Alternatively you can wire directly into plug socket. May have to upgrade cable. Then into a fuse down switch then out to light fitting
