Not for us...
I am a classical homeschooler of a bright 3rd-grader. We had gone through Spelling Workout A & B, but I didn't like that the workbook pages had my daughter "find the misspelled words" from lists. I think she should always see the spelling words spelled out CORRECTLY since she is a visual learner. I made a switch to Wordly Wise after hearing reviews (and wanting to incorporate more vocab and not just spelling), but I'm not a fan of this curriculum either. There is no pronunciation key, so if I'm not next to my daughter as she reads the vocabulary list, she has trouble with words she's never seen or heard before (like chasm). There are 5 lessons per 10-word vocabulary list, and my daughter usually completes the first 4 in about 15-20 minutes. They are not difficult lessons--multiple choice, replacing a definition or phrase with the correct vocab word, adding a prefix or suffix, etc. The last lesson involves reading a 1+-page story and answering about 10 questions using the vocabulary words from that lesson. My daughter has trouble with the last lesson because she doesn't really learn anything from the first four; they're just too easy and don't require much thought to complete. She isn't exactly grasping the words and definitions by the time she gets to the fifth lesson, and after that there's a whole new set of words. Every two lessons there is a crossword puzzle review sheet covering only those two lessons (20 words). What this curriculum needs is a pronunciation key for the vocabulary lists, lessons that make the student write her own sentences or write out definitions (no more easy multiple choice), and review exercises that incorporate words from ALL previous lessons and not just the last two.

awesome for all kids
My son goes to public school, but has a large IQ, and is top of his class. On a computer program one day, he complained to me that he was struggling with vocabulary words and their definitions. I asked the teacher and she wasn't sure what to tell me---they do not have vocab in the second grade here. He's testing on a much higher level, but she was going to ask around.I asked a friend who homeschools what she would do, and she suggested this curriculum. My son(7) read the reviews and description and agreed to try it.He LOVES it. I love that the pages following each word list go from everything from multiple choice, to sentence writing, to reading comprehension. LOVE that. He said the words in this level are very easy for him, but he likes the way the book is made up. :) We are through two lessons now, and he is doing great!I would recommend this series of workbooks!

Enhance vocabulary instruction
I have been looking for great words to enhance my vocabulary instruction for my 3rd grade students. I chose this book because it said book 3, but I think that you basically start at the first book in the series and work your way up. The book has 15 lessons that are divided into parts. Lesson 1-15 has A-E exercises involving different word study. These include exercises like synonyms, definitions, examples, parts of speech, and a passage using the word with questions to follow. This is a workbook for 1 student, but it could be copied or used under a lumens for whole group instruction. I also like the online supplement that is included with the workbook. I will use whole group, centers or stations, and independently as my students become more comfortable with the expectations of each lesson.

Love This Resource
I was concerned about my son not receiving spelling and vocabulary lessons in the virtual learning environment so I purchased this workbook at the suggestion of a friend. It is terrific! It has five activities for each set of ten vocabulary terms, definitions, parts of speech, stories and introductory crossword puzzles. My son loves this workbook!

Great vocab book
We've used this series for homeschooling for several years. My son works better with less writing, so we do most of the work orally. The stories for each unit are excellent opportunities for young readers who normally don't enjoy reading.

Love this brand for homeschooling!
Love this brand for homeschooling. Make sure you check out the brand website to find out what numbers are associated with what grades!! They have changed the pattern of number to grade over the years and you want to make sure you are ordering the right grade for your child. Woul d also be great as a supplement to public school for children who are struggling with vocabulary, writing or reading comprehension.

Want to give more than five stars for this work book!
My kid looooooves it and wanting to work on this! Each time after several pages are done, he yells how fun it was. It shows a great way to learn different meaning of words, and repeats in several different way to show kids so they naturally adapt the words to the sentences.

Best vocabulary program I know of
I use these books with my son and they are exactly the same as when my mom uses them with me. We are hearing more and more that the vocabulary our children are being exposed to is shrinking every year. Well these books are the answer! They are simple but effective and are wonderful at expanding the working vocabulary of our children!
