Yes, but you need liquid to swallow

How do you open the bottle?

You have to open by pulling straight up. I have problems with my hands and often find it difficult, so I pack my pills two weeks at a time.

I see the capsule is 500mg, but how much actual lavender does it contain?

No the back of the bottle it says 500mg of lavandula officicianlis macerated oil. I assume that is in the capsul.
