Their earliest hits featured either the grits-and-gravy stylings of David Ruffin ("My Girl," "I Wish It Would Rain") or the gossamer falsetto of Eddie Kendricks ("The Way You Do the Things You Do," "You're My Everything"). Replacing Ruffin with Dennis Edwards, the group went to a five-lead-voices concept ("Cloud Nine," "I Can't Get Next to You," "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone") that kept them in hits for another two decades. This 46-song, 2 CD set sports every one of these classics, an incredible live! version of "Ol' Man River," the seriously funky &quo;Shakey Ground," the Rick James-assisted "Standing on the Top," and many, many magical musical moments more. This Motown 2 CD anthology of the Temptations is their absolute BEST!
Spanning a total of 46 generous selections on this quintessential double CD release, containing 27 tracks on disc 1 and 19 songs on the second disc, this anthology is just amazing from the legendary R&B hitmakers by the Temptations! Nearly every single that charted between the mid 1960's up until the mid 1980's is represented here, with excellent remastering. Of the plethora of compilations available by this supergroup, this is, by far, the most comprehensive and the BEST one to own! Very highly recommend this to others!

The Classic 5 Lineup
I'm really digging this CD especially Disc one which Features the Classic 5 Lineup form 1964-1968 and in those 4 Short years David Ruffin made a big Impact and made it count his voice is one of a kind and you can almost hear the pain in his voice with songs like I wish it would rain, I know I'm losing you, I Could never love another, you might actually cry that's how powerful these songs are even Eddies 4 singles in 1964 are pretty good The Girls Alright With me is my favorite from eddies lead and then Girl ( Why you wanna make me Blue) but after 1968 that's the end of the David Ruffin era ballads we love to hear and enter the Temps Psychedelic soul period when new recruit Dennis Edwards joins the group and sings lead on most of the songs on Disc 2, "Papa was a rolling stone" is as funky as you'll ever get which ends the commercial success the Temps had for near a decade but be aware disc one is in Mono but if you have a good stereo that has a lot of bass that really is no big deal so enjoy the most Successful Soul group of the 1960's Motown Style!

The sad part is....there will never be another group like The Temptations
I grew up on their music. I'm only in my early 30's. My brother who grew up in the 70's would play the VINYL to these classics. Their harmony, tone , showmanship is incredible. The heartbreaking thing is there will NEVER be another group like this. Look at them...handsome, well dressed and talented. I prefer the "Classic 5" but I appreciate what the personal changes ( Dennis, Damon, Richard , Ali-Ollie andTyson) brought to the brand up until Melvin's passing. The lyrics and sound have this warmth that makes one fell good. It's like lemonade in the summer. Pumpkin Pie on Thanksgiving.Go to youtube and watch some of their old videos. Clean moves, fancy suits and the most amazing harmony you will ever hear. Eddie Kendricks falsetto...NO ONE can EVER reproduce that. Ruffin's rough raspy voice...Paul's soul, Otis's steady tenor and Melvin's ocean deep bass.....whew....I'm sure Otis has sweet memories in his old year of what he was apart of along with his brothers. Despite the problems...this was a brotherhood.

What’s not to love about the Temptations?
The Temps defined an era. Their music is timeless and they contributed tremendously to the soul of rock and roll.

Incredible Collection
The greatest singing group of all time in their prime. David Ruffin may have the greatest soul voice of all time. Def one of the greatest singers who ever lived and for sure the best Motown singer ever. Eddie Kendricks also sings so many beautiful leads.
