Original shipment was damaged in transit, so warehouse reshipped. Seller was prompt in responding to my inquiry. Once product arrived was in great shape and exactly as described, super light weight and chunky just like I wanted.

I have tried everything to improve the plant hygiene of some plants such as orchids and anthurium and to improve the quality of my potting soil. Coconut coir is the only product that I have encountered which provides not just an alternative but a clear improvement. However, coconut coir needs to be flushed of its high salt content and most claim to do so. It has been my feeling Hydrofarm's claim is somewhat more reliable than others. And I have assumed this would address any other contaminants. This five star rating is primarily due to my support for plant and garden supplies that do not contain peat, and belief coconut coir could provide all of peat's versatility without any of its many downsides.

Works great
We use this in our hydroponics garden and it's been working great. The clay pebbles were pretty expensive so this helped us stay on our budget.

Not a suitable replacement for clay pellets...
Before putting these into my aquaponics system, I decided to test them out in a glass jar. What I found is that they turn the water an orangish-brown and unlike clay pellets (which will usually sink after soaking for a while) haven't floated down and are useless to my system. I'm unsure whether they would work mixed with clay pellets or if they'll eventually sink to the bottom but I wouldn't recommend this as a replacement for clay pellets or for an aquaponics system in general.

Name more things after food, it works on me...
I like the croutons. Easy to use, great airflow. Seem very clean out of the bag and I'm relieved of a worry since there's no salt issues. That said, I think I might have chosen them for the name. Grow lettuce in some croutons? OK! LOL.
