Good purchase
These are really nice radios. I had difficulty in the programming area, transmit and receive offsets. I also didn't have anyone to contact to help. By the time the company called back, I sent them back. I did later order another one along with a programming cable recommended by an experienced ham operator.

Best baofeng radio I've purchased
Love the color screen and battery life. Easier to program than the earlier baofeng radios. Was able to connect to a repeater in minutes.

Not as functional as it should/could be.. Tedious to program. No data sync with CHIRP
I recently purchased the UV-5RH radio and was excited by its promise of modern USB-C convenience. Imagine my delight — finally, a sleek, updated model without the finicky 2-pin cables of yesteryear! However, after considerable effort (and more time in Device Manager than I care to admit), I’ve discovered that the USB-C port is not currently recognized for programming functionality. Despite my computer's data-capable USB ports, multiple cables, and even attempts with CHIRP software, there’s no sign of a COM port — and no mention of drivers or programming support in the documentation. And it's not prossible to name the channels in English.(you have to read/write in Chinese). Now, I’m sure they had their reasons — perhaps a firmware update is in the works? Or maybe this is a gentle nudge to embrace character-building manual entry? Either way, I wanted to kindly bring it to everyone's attention and suggest that clearer documentation — or better yet, full USB-C programming support — would go a long way toward satisfying their ham customers. As we say here in the South: “Why, bless your heart.” Which, in this case, translates to: We love what they are trying to do, and we’d love it even more if it actually worked.

Radio needs work. Not ready for market.
This radio is promising but almost completely unsupported. The programming software is difficult to find and the firmware updating software is impossible to find without signing up on dodgy websites. The APRS activates every 30 seconds when it is turned on without any possibility of changing the broadcast time. The Bluetooth exists but doesn't connect to anything. This radio needs some major software and firmware upgrades before it is really ready for use. I may be returning these radios. If these issues get fixed I will update this review.

full of potential. SW suite not done yet
Without APRS this would be a 2 star radio and the reality is the APRS is a battle to get working in JUN of 2025. First order had a dud in it that would not TX or RX however the second set was fine. It is very easy to program stations in using the keypad and display. That sounds like a given, but its only recently possible in a radio at any price point and this one is intuitive. Audio sound (to my ear) is great on FM RX and reasonable on AM RX. The display is hard to read in the sun, but you can see it well enough to use the radio and maybe well enough to program a channel if you are already familiar with the menus. RX in general is marginal with a squelch that is too high. Unfortunately adding a better antenna results in worse RX presumably due to the AGC and/or front end design. for 5 stars this needs: -support for a programing SW that allows CVS list imports. 640 channels means nothing if I have to type them all in. -Improved RX design or at least adjustment of squelch set points to allow use with better antennas like the UV5R has in chirp. -Path forward for APRS functionality to everyone. -overall bug work on the firmware. Too many little things are wonky like how NOAA weather alerts behave. Strong points: -Very easy to set up and use with simplex and repeaters -FM audio RX is great -Great battery life and USB-C charging -APRS sorta works now if you are willing to put in a lot of effort. That's impressive at this price and a first for the affordable market.

Perfect for Outdoor Enthusiasts!
This handheld ham radio is a must-have for hikers, campers, and anyone who spends time outdoors. The long-range capability is impressive, and the GPS feature ensures you never lose your way. The NOAA weather alerts are a lifesaver, especially in unpredictable conditions. The battery life is outstanding, and the USB-C charging makes it easy to power up. The BAOFENG 5RH PRO is definitely worth the investment!
