The Art of Stop-motion Animation

I am trying to build some puppets for an animated feature that I am planning to shoot later this year, but was experiencing great difficulty geting the latex to set in the mold, so I ordered this book. It has a great section on mold making, but also suggested creating the puppets by wraping the armature in foam or scupting Cotton wool onto them with PVA, both approaches that we have now adopted as we are having more success, the sections on lip-syncing were very informative and easy to follow and understand. I truly believe that this book has saved our production. a worthwhile investment even if you are an experienced animator.

This book really helped me with my stop motion project, It talks about what to use such as the best cameras, lights and how to make the best of your animation using every objects around you. It looks at software, techniques, how to build your puppets, where to get stuff from and features interviews from the pros. It really is a great book A*

Ho acquistato tre libri usati da ErgodeBooks, dichiarati in condizioni ottime, peccato che due di questi siano arrivati con le copertine rigide completamente rovinate, perché semplicemente imbustati in un involucro di plastica sottile, incapace di proteggere ad hoc il contenuto. Per un libro ho accettato il rimborso di pochi euro per compensare il danno, mentre per il volume di Manhattan Skyscrapers sto ancora aspettando il rimborso della merce, continuano a dirmi di non aver ricevuto il reso, ma l'etichetta da stampare e apporre sulla confezione prevede l'invio della merce al venditore senza tracciamento, cosí rischio di non avere piú né il libro, né il rimborso. In conclusione, spedizione lenta e senza tracciabilità, packaging non professionale, salvo solo il servizio clienti. In merito al libro, utile, anche se mi sembra sovrastimato.

I'm the author of Secrets of Clay Animation Revealed and have read just about every book out there on how to create stop motion films. I'm always trying to learn because after working in the industry - sometimes I get bored reading these sorts of books. That's not the case with Ken Priebes Art of Stop Motion Animation. Even if you are an experienced animator, it's worth buying this book just for the interviews and behind the scenes pictures. At least for me, I can never get enough pictures of the various productions going on out there. The images are in full color and the book comes with a disk of animation examples to help the reader see final animations of characters within the book. Pretty much everything you need to understand how to animate, create puppets, find a camera, time animation, use exposure sheets, light and finish your film is in the book. It definitely belongs on the bookshelf of every stop motion animator.

It just arrived. This book is awesome. Anyone interested in stop motion needs this book. Definitely do i recommend it.

First, I must say that the book's cover was designed good enough, and previous reviews in this page, were so appealing that made me expect a little more of stop-motion movie related examples than what I found. However,basic and rough exercises through the book (and the CD-ROM)are useful enough for any stop- motion beginner to keep him/her motivated without expecting outrageous results. The book offers also some interesting data through the appendix section. I believe it's a good starting reference, but not outstanding alone. If you are interested for more in depth stop-motion references, check this other titles available from amazon. Fully recommended-) DVD There are a great number of commercial stop-motion DVDs through amazon U.S., but I really would like to recommend this less commercial title from amazon UK.
