Bulova made space history on August 2, 1971--during the Apollo 15 mission, a moon pilot chronograph, customized for lunar conditions by Bulova engineers, was worn on the moon. Now Bulova makes history again with the special edition Lunar Pilot Chronograph. Features stainless steel screw-back case in silver-tone finish and black dial and sapphire glass. From the Precisionist Collection. Featuring Bulova’s proprietary Precisionist accuracy, this advanced chronograph offers 1/1,000-second precision over a twelve-hour time frame, with accuracy to within seconds a year. In stainless steel with curved crystal, multiple-layer black carbon fiber, blue, silver and black dial, chronograph measurement of hours, minutes, seconds, 1/10-seconds, 1/100-seconds and 1/1,000-seconds, yellow continuously sweeping second hand, luminous hour and minute hands, luminous markers, tachymeter, calendar, screw-back case, screw-down crown, double-press fold-over clasp with safety lock, and water resistance to 50 meters.Providing an extraordinary level of timing accuracy, the Bulova Precisionist Chronograph is the only chronograph to combine stopwatch timing to 1/1,000-second with Bulova’s exclusive Precisionist-class torsional resonator movement, proven in laboratory testing to be one of the world’s most accurate.Easy and logical to read, each style features four subdials to display the cumulative time at a single glance, with individual measurements on the combined 1/10- and 1/100-second counter, as well as the hour and minute dials, dual-duty floating second hand, and a distinctive 1/1,000-second track with retrograde indicator.Precisionist TechnologyAt the heart of the watch is the Bulova Precisionist-class torsional resonator movement, custom-engineered to provide accuracy to within seconds a year using a three-prong quartz crystal that creates a vibration frequency of 262.144 kHz, the highest of any watch in the world and far greater than that of a standard quartz crystal. In laboratory testing, the Precisionist-class movement has been shown to be three times more accurate than standard quartz. This proprietary manufactured movement, including the signature floating second hand, also offers a resistance to gravitational error that makes it superior in performance to any mechanical watch on the market.Summary of FeaturesPrecision timing to 1/1,000th of a second12-hour chronograph functionOne of the world’s most accurate movements – accurate to within seconds a yearPrecisionist-class torsional resonator movement proven in laboratory testing to be three times more accurate than standard quartzStainless steel case and braceletSapphire GlassMultiple-layer black carbon fiber, blue and silver dialYellow continuously sweeping second handLuminous hour and minute handsLuminous markersCalendar windowTachymeterScrew-backScrew-down crownWater resistant to 50 metersAbout BulovaIn 1875, Joseph Bulova, a 23-year-old immigrant, set up shop in New York City and a legendary American watch brand was born. Since then, Bulova has stood proudly in the vanguard of timekeeping innovation, committed to the legacy of creativity and excellence established by its founder.A pioneering force in the industry, Bulova transformed how watches were worn and how time was perceived, registering over 50 patents as he and his company built a record of creativity including the first full lines of men’s (1919) and ladies’ (1924) wristwatches, the first clock/radio (1928) and the first electric clock (1931). To ensure the utmost in precision, in 1920, Bulova even established its own observatory – located atop its New York skyscraper. With that same spirit of innovation, following World War II, determined “to serve those who served us,” Bulova established The Bulova School of Watchmaking, using new and unique methods to train disabled veterans for positions in the watch and jewelry industry. Then, in 1960, Bulova changed timekeeping forever with the revolutionary Accutron, the world’s first fully electronic watch. An integral component of U.S. space technology, Accutron timing was used on 46 NASA missions, including Apollo XI, the first lunar landing (1969).Today, as one of the world’s most recognized brands, Bulova has expanded across the globe, with four separate watch brands, Bulova, Bulova AccuSwiss, Bulova Accutron II and Caravelle New York, as well as the award-winning Bulova Clocks. The signature Bulova brand provides an extensive selection of watches for every occasion, crafted of the finest materials, including 315L surgical grade stainless steel, diamonds, mother-of-pearl, carbon fiber, top-quality leather and Bulova’s proprietary Duramic nylon/ceramic composite, and powered by Precisionist-class quartz, automatic and quartz movements. An industry leader in diamond watch styling, with the new Diamond Gallery offering exquisite designs in stainless steel with sapphire crystals, Bulova is also known for Precisionist, featuring Bulova’s proprietary Precisionist-class quartz torsional resonator movement for accuracy to within seconds per year, the Marine Star collection, combining high-performance sports timekeeping with superior durability and water resistance to a minimum of 50 meters, and a comprehensive selection of classic styles, each with a three-year limited warranty. See more Review: Stunning watch with great provenance! - Stunning watch with a really neat bit of history. It's quite large compared to most of my other watches, but it wears relatively small for its size. My wrist is just a hair under 7" and I'd say I'm right at the cusp of it fitting. If you have a smaller wrist, I'd recommend going with the 43mm version. It's an incredible watch with a good bit of heft and looks much nicer than the price suggests. Probably my favorite watch in my collection! Review: Great quality, value and performance - I am very pleased with my purchase. This is my fourth Bulova watch using the ultra-high frequency quartz movement used in their Precisionist line. This model is better constructed than any of the other Bulovas that I have had. The quality of the case and band are excellent. Some have complained that the band and case have slightly different finishes (case is stain, band is slightly brushed) but I really could not tell much of a difference. The band is comfortable and drapes nicely around the wrist. It has a butterfly closure that I prefer bu ist hard to find in "sports" watches that normally use a tri-fold closure with a clasp. With the butterfly closure, there is no outer clasp to become scratched. The watch is listed at 45 mm diameter, which is accurate. However, it has a slightly stepped construction in that the diameter of the face of watch is about 41 mm. Therefore, this watch wears smaller than 45 mm. Because of this, I think it is better proportioned than many large chronographs. The best thing about this watch and the reason it was chosen by one astronaut as a backup watch is the legibility of the dial. (FYI: the Omega Speedmaster was the original NASA purchased watch but the Bulova was used as the backup watch by at least one astronaut on the moon mission. In that case, his Omega stopped working and the Bulova had to be used). Being able to see the time at a glance is excellent due to the design of the hands, the dial, and the fact that the sapphire crystal has an anti-reflective coating. You should be aware that the center sweep seconds hand is for chronograph seconds and will move only when activated by the top pusher. Continuous seconds is shown in the lower subdial where the hand will tick 2 times per second. Subdial on the right is for 1/10 seconds, and the subdial on the left is for lapsed minutes up to 60 minutes. The subdials could have been slightly larger and the 60 minute counter should have been reduced to 30 minutes as on many chronographs. The shape of the pushers are unique to this model and have been widely praised. I like them myself and they work great. In case you are wondering about the battery life due to the higher energy consumption of the movement, it far exceeds Bulova's estimate of 2 years. My oldest Bulova Precisionist is more than 3 years old and I have never had to replace the battery even with a continuous sweeping center second hand going continuously for 3 1/2 years. This battery life seems common based on the discussion on many watch forums. I think that this purchase is money well spent.

A big but not blingy watch
Here are some impressions having just received mine. First: the size. I have a 6" wrist, thin bone structure, and this is the absolute largest watch I could wear. The case is elongated to a huge 52 mm from lug to lug, but with only a 20 mm lug width. However, the dial portion of the case is only 45 mm, so the watch wears smaller than its dimensions suggest. These proportions, on a tonneau shaped case, are classy and flattering but no one would ever regard a watch this size as dainty. The dial has a very 3D appearance, which has white applied stick indices, recessed chronometer markings in lieu of a chapter ring, and a raised tachymeter ring that is under the flat sapphire crystal (vs. on a bezel like a dive watch). White markings on a black background are very high-contrast and legible. I find diver-style fold-over deployant clasps easier to manage than the butterfly-style double deployant clasp on the "President" style bracelet, but it's solid and rattle-free with solid endlinks. The chronometer pushers actuate with crisp clicks, tactile feedback that is not often found on chronometers at this price point. Finally, the mixture of finishes gives the Moon Pilot an interesting look that distinguishes it from typical brushed steel watches. The case has a satin bead-blasted finish, the pushers and crown are polished, and the bracelet is brushed. I think people will either love or hate this unusual mixture of finishes. But the matte case finish helps offset the large size, which is too often associated with overly bright, blingy, hypermasculine watches (e.g. Nixon 51-30). Also, the flat sapphire with barely visible chamfer is not flush with or slightly recessed below a bezel, but is exposed about a mm so may be more vulnerable to dings. No one will mistake this for an Omega Speedmaster, but it's a solid watch for the price.

An AMAZING watch!!
I have had this watch in my basket for over a year. I have been in love with the Omega Speedmaster for as long as I can remember. When I found out about the Lunar Pilot, and its history with space, I researched and fell in love with it! The weight and quality is far above its price range. At first I didn’t know it I would really like it, but once I held this beautiful timepiece I removed all doubt. I am absolutely in love with the Lunar Pilot!! Also, if you want to size the bracelet, just know that it’s a push through pin, not a screw. It looks like it would be a screw by the flathead cut on one side but it’s not. I sized mine up with a watch repair kit from Harbor Freight and it worked great. In fact I’ve sized all my watch bands with this kit. I hope you enjoy your Lunar Pilot as much as I do!!!

This watch is very well made. I’m actually more happy with it now than I thought I will be ordering it. Few things to consider: Yes, it’s a bigger watch. I got 6.75+/7.0- inch wrist. It sits slightly on a larger side but it’s not as bad as some might think. It’s solid comfy good looking watch. Some complain about QC. This is not true. The misaligned hands can be easily adjusted by pulling out the crown and using the buttons to adjust it. It’s a feature of this and many other chronograph watches. People, read a manual before you complain. It has a butterfly clasp. Looks good. My only small complain it does not have a micro adjustment. So you are stuck with link removal. Is it bad? Not really but consider it. My only wish is to have this watch in mechanical version and I’d say it would be the one if not the best watch I got…. And I got few Swiss made watches and others. I’d definitely would get another one if this one was to disappear or something.
