We are very excited to bring you the new and improved Horizon Stove for 2016 with a new, lightweight design. Some of the feedback we had on the original Horizon Stove was that it was a just a little heavy. So we thought long and hard about the design of the stove, and how we could adapt it to be easier to carry whilst still being just as sturdy as the original. We're pretty pleased with the results! A super-efficient rocket stove, the Horizon is smokeless once lit: no more smoke in your eyes when barbecuing on the beach. It runs on just a handful of twigs or driftwood. The outer cage remains cool throughout cooking, so you can pick it up if you need to. Once you’re finished cooking, just tip out the ash and it’s ready to transport. Always make sure any embers are fully extinguished before you leave.

Cracking rocket stove!
Originally saw one of these in the window of Finisterre in Falmouth and slightly fell in love. Online reviews backed up its looks and I bought one from Amazon a couple of weeks later. It's not cheap but it really is a beauty and performs fantastically well.Dead easy to get lit and once going gets up good heat and cooks really well. It also requires remarkably little fuel. The orange mesh means you can easy move or reposition it while hot or lit. Comes in a really nice 'backpack' style bag made from recycled inner tubes so you can transport it around easily. It's fairly bulky so you're not going to want to take this off hiking all day but that's not what it's designed for.Absolutely perfect for camping, cook-outs in the fields or woods, and cooking on the beach.Love it!

Remarkably efficient and easy to use
This is the first rocket stove I have owned so I don't have a lot to compare it to but it has been great. It is remarkably efficient and easy to use, and a viable alternative to a gas stove. It can burn twigs or whatever is lying around but works best with well dried kindling and actually uses very little. When I know I'm going to use it I fill the chamber and top of the bag it comes with with kindling and that tends to be enough for a couple of uses.Although on the bulky side, the stove is quite light and attractively designed. It feels reasonably robust and good quality. The stainless steel body should be very durable but I am less convinced by the galvanised steel top and bottom plates which may rust over time.A small downside I have experienced is that cookware tends to get blackened with soot but that may be unavoidable with any rocket stove. This issue is lessened, but not eliminated, by using well dried wood and being careful not to over-fill the chamber. It only really needs one or two pieces of kindling at a time.

It's been a pleasure!
This stove works and is a great pleasure to use. I much prefer it to a gas stove and even to my little Trangia meths burner. I used it every night while camping in France for two weeks last year, and quite a few shorter trips and evenings in the garden since then. Once you have the knack it lights quite easily - I've found that just dropping a bit of dry newspaper or dried grass and some twigs down from the top followed by a burning match works well for lighting, then feed in more twigs/kindling from the opening at the base once the air is drawing through. Once going it draws well and burns with a hot flame, plenty hot enough to quickly boil a pan of water. You have to keep tending it by feeding in fuel from the side to replace the burnt stuff every couple of minutes, so no walking off and doing something else while you're using it or it will go out. It works best with finely chopped wood kindling but one of the nice things about it is that, at a pinch, you can just use dry twigs collected from the ground around you to keep it going - no need to worry about running out of fuel.Although not heavy it is too bulky to carry for backpacking, but the large top and base and the orange mesh bring some worthwhile advantages over smaller rocket stoves. The base makes it stable, the top is big enough to sit a big pan on (I use a cast iron skillet, works very well) and the mesh makes it more difficult to burn yourself accidentally and stays cool enough to allow you to pick up and move the stove even when it's burning. It is much more discreet and controllable than an open fire, you can use it safely where open fires aren't allowed, and the little flame it gives off creates a companionable atmosphere for sitting around after dark, even if it doesn't keep you warm. The footprint is relatively small and the base doesn't seem to get hot enough to entirely kill the grass, although I usually sit it on a small square of wood. The only real downside I've found is that it does blacken the base of whatever cookware you're using with soot, and that is difficut and messy to clean off when you're camping. If you use dry wood then it's not so bad, but it still happens. This soot can get over everythng if you're not careful and I suggest you dedicate an old cloth/teatowel for cleaning whatever pan/skillet you use, and for nothing else. Also it is, I suppose, quite expensive for what it is and you can buy cheaper rockets stoves, or even make your own from a couple of tin cans (plenty of videos on the internet to show you how). That put me off buying it for a while and when I eventually did it felt like a bit of an extravagance, but now I am very glad I got it. It works so well and is a pleasure to use, so it has definitely been worth it. Friends I've been camping and cooking with have been impressed enough to buy their own.For me, using this stove has been great and helps create a much more relaxed camping vibe than a gas burner so deserves the five stars rating.

Trick is to keep the front face of the chimney clear to allow a good airflow through to allow prolonged burning
Using the stove regularly in the back yard for burning offcuts of wood.Trick is to keep the front face of the chimney clear to allow a good airflow through to allow prolonged burning.I like it. More portable and cleaner than a chiminea.
