Wings of Angels: A Tribute to the Art of World War II Pinup & Aviation Vol.1

I really like these books (Vol 1 and 2), the idea is brilliant, the photography is very very good, the models pretty and evoke vintage pin-up, sexy without going too far. Malak is a very good photographer and I enjoy his blend of HDR shots, BW and color, the models, all blending well and some nice info about each WWII plane. The books seen decently made, pages are good quality as is the printing, saturated colors really pop. If they fall apart I will update.So why a star knocked off? Well, as another review stated, each page had "Wings of Angels" printed on it, a bit out of place, but my real criticism is in the layout of the photos. Its kinda done in a "scrapbook" kinda way, which works well 80% of the time. I just wish that each section (the book is broken into sections of Plane/Model pairings), had 2-3 pages where the best photos of that section was a full page layout (yes, even though this means you have to turn the book sideways to view). There are just so many amazing horizontal framed images and if positioned on one page they are too small and (what is typically done) in many cases the image is a bit bigger than can fit on one page oriented horizontally, but crosses the book binding just a bit, which greatly detracts from the overall image in my view. Maybe it never occurred to the author to put a few of his best images as full page layouts without crossing the binding so they can be viewed with their full impact intact, but I think the reason may be that he did not want the large images to be "usable" as separate prints as he sells most of the better images separately online. I can understand that position, but paying what I paid for two volumes of photography images, I expect my expectations as a viewer/customer (the best images presented in the best way) to be met. Not a deal breaker by any means, still think these are very good books and would buy again, but could have been just a touch better in my opinion.

If you like vintage aircraft and women, this books for you. The ladies are beautiful & sexy, and the aircraft photosare very informative, giving descriptions of the planes. GREAT

Overall, this book is great in recreating the look and feel of the pinup era, with lots of photos in both color and black & white. But the reason I knocked off a star, is that the book suffers from not having someone do a final print review, as on every page it says "Wings of Angles", and there are a few pages where text is placed in dark areas, making it hard to read.

The 1st volume to Wings of Angels this book is full of wonderful photographs of vintage aircraft with beautiful ladies dolled up in vintage clothing and makeup. The way the photographs have been taken is tasteful and captures the vintage spirit of the 40's. This is the perfect gift for WWII history buffs and fans of 40's pinup art.

Beautiful photos of a beautiful era

This book is the perfect antidote to the endless drip feed of bad news which seems to be the media norm at present ... whenever you are reading this review! Publishers of 'coffee table photobooks' obviously believe there is a market for those depicting human misery, suffering and warfare.These observations explain why Michael Malak's book is as refreshing as a cold shower on a sticky day, as refreshing as an ice cold Coke in its iconic bottle [pp 25 and 115] and an absolute must-have and must-keep book for anyone and ebveryone who appreciates great photography, iconic piston engine aircraft lovingly restored and beautiful young girls in tasteful, revealing, glamorous 1940's/50's costumes.And yet these 144 pages of mainly photographs with just enough text to help the story along, are a tribute to the men and women who gave all for home and freedom during the most devastating war the world had ever seen. I bought and reviewed Volume 2 first and enjoyed it so much that this was ordered the same day that the first book arrived!I would like to record a public vote of thanks to Michael, his team, his models and his publisher for this Olympic sized pool of nostalgia. They all deserve gold medals.

Good looking girls posing artfully yet cheekily in front of WW 2 aircraft in their WW 2 era undies, what more can a person want?

Sehr schön gemachtes Buch, das meine beiden Neigungen "Oldtimerflugzeuge" und "PinUp/Rockabilly" miteinander verbindet. Die Fotos sind einfach toll und die eingestreuten PinUp-Zeichnungen gefallen mir auch sehr! Was ich etwas übertrieben-pathetisch finde ist die Verklärung der US-Veteranen - typisch amerikanisch! Und man sollte auch bei aller Liebe zu Oldtimerflugzeugen nicht vergessen. Dass viele der gezeigten Flugzeuge "Warbirds", also Tötungsmaschinen sind....Ich habe auch den Band II, für den das gesagte ebenso gilt.
