This comparative grammar includes what all comparative grammars should include, but usually don't...
This comparative grammar includes what all comparative grammars should include, but usually don't, and that is a history of the languages covered in the text. These language histories include origins and development of the language, influences from other languages, and cultural information such as literature, language revival, and other fascinating facts. This section covers the first half of the book. Another key feature of this book is the large print. No more squinting trying to read smaller than a 12-point font. The second half of the book focuses on grammar. For each topic there is a clear description followed by several sample sentences for each language. In addition, there are over 30 pages of common expressions in a separate section near the end of the book. Another important feature is the inclusion of Romanian and Catalan, two important Romance languages often ignored. Romanian is so different from the other Romance languages (you'll understand why if you read its language history in the first part of the book), which makes its inclusion important for language lovers. A bonus feature is a section that translates 50 English sentences pertaining to the culture of the region into 13 Romance languages. I highly recommend this book for anyone who: 1) knows English and is interested in the region. The language histories and 50 bonus sentences are interesting and informative on their own; 2) knows any one or more of the languages covered (Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, Romanian, Catalan), and would like to learn another of these languages; 3) knows Italian and would like to learn one or more of the other languages spoken in Italy; 4) wants to learn one or more of these languages; 5) is studying linguistics; 6) is brave enough to try to learn all six languages at once!

Great resource
This comprehensive guide transforms the daunting task of learning multiple Romance languages into an achievable goal. By expertly weaving together the linguistic threads that connect these languages, the book illuminates their common ancestry while carefully noting their distinct evolutions. The presentation excels through its innovative comparative approach, laying out grammar structures, word families, and conjugation patterns in parallel to reveal the underlying symmetries across languages. Visual elements serve as powerful learning tools throughout – meticulously crafted diagrams map out linguistic relationships, while carefully structured tables create clear pathways through potentially complex material. The abundant real-world examples breathe life into theoretical concepts, showing how each language functions in everyday contexts. This practical application helps cement understanding while building genuine communication skills. While focusing primarily on the major Romance languages, the book extends its reach to include lesser-studied variants like Galician and Sardinian. This broader perspective enriches readers' understanding of the Romance language family as a whole. Whether you're taking your first steps into Romance languages or seeking to expand existing linguistic expertise, this book offers valuable insights and a structured path to multilingual proficiency.

Excellent Tool For Language Self-Learning.
I have the ebook version available on Kindle Unlimited. The book is well-organized and attractive. I especially like the illustrations along with the text. This is a nice touch, making this comparative grammar of Romance languages stand out from another grammar available on Kindle Unlimited. This volume also covers six languages while other volumes usually only cover the four major Romance languages. As a bonus, some additional Romance languages are touched on at the end of the book. I like the easy-to-read layout of charts of comparative words, phrases and sentences. I find the sentences and phrases especially useful for language practice. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is that it will not download to my Kindle device, so I have to use my phone or tablet to read it. I would prefer to read on my Kindle device.

For the busy polyglot
I’ve purchased other comparative grammar books before, none were formatted in a way that allowed you to pick up the languages simultaneously. This book is a godsend.

I'm super pleased with my purchase.
This is an awesome book! I actually purchased all 4 of the comparative language books and even though I have yet to read them due to them being new, I have taken the time to skim through different parts of the books and I think they're going to be great additions to my LLA (Language learning arsenal). I'm hoping he comes out with a comparative grammar book for Slavic languages, (Russian, Ukranian, Serbian, Belarusian, Bulgarian, Croatian, etc.). All in all, these are great, they start with an overview of the history behind each language and then it compares grammar between those languages with examples and explanations. Awesome job!

DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK! It is next to worthless.
DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK! It is practically worthless and appears to have been written by AI. It promises much but delivers very little. It is a large book - but much of each page is occupied by photos or drawings (without labels or legends) that have little to do with the text. The text is printed in a large font and is highly repetitive. I know all of the Romance languages, except Romanian, and thus I am in a good position to judge! This book adds very little in the way of new material - and cannot fairly be said to be a "Comparative Grammar." For a comparison of what this book should have been look at the works of Mario Pei

I love how each grammar point is laid out across multiple languages. It’s given me a deeper understanding of how Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, Romanian, and Catalan connect and diverge.

This book was a great read. As a Spanish and Galician speaker with some knowledge of Portuguese and French, I really enjoyed seeing the connections between these languages laid out so clearly. The comparative structure makes it much easier to spot patterns and avoid mixing up similar languages. It is well thought out for people who want to learn multiple languages at once without feeling overwhelmed. I also liked how it explains the evolution of these languages and their differences, something that is not usually covered in this kind of book. However, I was not too impressed with the illustrations. Some are fine, but overall they lack consistency in style and look AI generated. It does not take away from the content, but visually they could have been better. Overall, it is a really useful and well organized book, especially if you already have some background in one of these languages.

Robertson B. Kunz has written a masterly 557-page compilation of all aspects of Romance Languages. Backgrounds trace the development of each language and the influences upon them with an eye to their various dialects. A very clear summary of the grammar involved - often surpassing what's found in the average textbook. The author even took on Rumanian with all its divergences from the other Romance languages, often necessitating additional pages of explanation. As another example, this time for Portuguese, he outlined the differences between European Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese and even African Portuguese. An added bonus is a Romance language conversation across 13 Romance languages. All with lovely illustrations. Brilliant.

What a wonderful effort bringing together so much history and connection between these languages. Highly recommend this book.
