Excellent mesh WiFi for a great price but limited controls
I live in an old Victorian semi spread over 4 floors, basement, ground floor, first floor and attic bedrooms - and I’ve had trouble with WiFi signal for as long as I can remember. Over the past few years I’ve invested in Extenders, extra routers, power line adapters but nothing has done the trick and all have caused drop-out of signal or disconnect from the network. I spent ages reviewing tech sites for a Mesh solution and these looked straightforward and very reasonably priced. UNBOXING The devices are probably twice the size of Rubik’s cubes and I opted for the three-pack due to the size of my house. The devices come well packaged with Uk plugs and also comes with a thin Ethernet lead to plug into your existing router/modem. SETUP After a quick read through the brief instruction booklet, the first decision I needed to make was where I was going to position the devices to get the best signal throughout the house so that I could eliminate all the dead-spots. I positioned the devices in the Attic hallway, first floor hall way and ground floor hall way. I connected the first device to the router and downloaded the Tenda app from the AppStore. Setup was very easy as all the admin passwords are at the bottom of the devices - not figured out yet how to change these yet. CONNECTIVITY Within 5 minutes all the devices were connected and my teenage kids whooped for joy when the SpeedTest app reported >100Mb wireless speeds in most of the bedrooms - nothing was less than <30mb in speed. Even the kitchen, which usually had my wife complaining as she got <2mb previously was working at around 40Mb! Result. ISSUES Since installing the devices I’ve had one instance where the routers have dropped signal or appear to slow down to <1mb throughput for some unknown reason. This appeared to be a similar problem to what some other users have reported but I then made the decision to attach my devices to the ceiling in each hallway and to be honest they don’t look out of place. Having them on the ceilings has meant that I get very little interference from other electronics nearby and so far I’ve got no complaints as signal strength is perfect for the whole household. SUPPORT The one issue I had was the connectivity dropping and getting hold of a technical support phone number or email address is almost impossible with no contact details provided for UK or Europe. For that reason I just hope I never have to to contact them as I’ve had no reply to my support request for almost a week! RELIABILITY So far I have very little to complain about in terms of daily operation as the devices have been working fine since I reset them (powered off and then on when I last lost connectivity). Recommendation I’d recommend to try these if you want basic Mesh WiFi and are not too bothered about fancy VPN or lots of advanced parental controls. They have cured my WiFi dead spots but time will tell how they fair over the long run for reliability. UPDATE 02 FEB 2020 I’ve had the devices now for over a week and I’ve not a had a single problem with them. Speed has been stable at around 80-100Mb throughout the house - I’m hoping it stays that way. Really pleased with the WiFi devices and would highly recommend UPDATE 23 JUN 2020 The router and satellites have been running flawlessly now since Feb. Even my neighbour has invested in the same model. Not a single complaint to make about these devices. Better than any range extender or power line adapter.

Absolutely Transformed My Wi-Fi.
I bought the Tenda MW12-3 because the flat I live in has solid brick walls throughout and they absolutely kill the Wi-Fi signal from any router/hub I've had. Here's a little background. I'm a Virgin Media customer and to say that the Wi-Fi from the Hub 3 is woefully inadequate is the understatement of all understatements. It's so bad that I had to put it in modem mode and connect a separate router to get decent Wi-Fi in the same room as the Hub 3 sits. However, even the Wi-Fi signal from that Router could not maintain sufficient integrity through to the kitchen or bedrooms and when I upgraded my broadband to 500Mb the separate router just wasn't capable of those speeds so, I had to abandon it and revert back to the Virgin Hub 3. This just wasn't going to cut the mustard. Enter Tenda Mesh Wi-Fi! When browsing Mesh options, I opted on Tenda due to the cost and the overall favourable reviews they were receiving so, the price to quality ratio seemed too good to be true. Now that I'd settled on the brand, the next decision was which model should I choose. Given my experiences with the severe dampening effect the walls in my flat have on Wi-Fi signal, I was swithering between the MW6 and MW12. The MW12 seemed like overkill, given the coverage but, I was filled with dread at the thought of buying the MW6 and finding that these damned walls killed the signal from the Primary Node I'd have in the living room to the Secondary Nodes in the Bedroom and Kitchen. I therefore opted for the MW12 "Overkill" option. The MW12 was very easy to set up and I had all nodes set up in probably half an hour, most likely less than that. I would like to point out that many people say to put their Virgin Hub into Modem mode but, as I no longer had a separate Router for my Ethernet connected devices in the living room, I decided to simply try switching off the Wi-Fi on the Hub 3 and connecting the Primary Node to it to see if that would work first of all, and it did. It works perfectly. So, there's no need to put your Virgin Hub in Modem mode! To say my Wi-Fi experience has been transformative after switching to the Tenda MW12 doesn't even seem to do it justice. I would say though, and this is far from a negative to me, that the signal is so strong now that even when I'm in the bedroom, devices still seem to be connecting to the Primary Node in the living room and with a strong signal! So, perhaps for my flat and coverage needs, it was indeed overkill and the MW6 most likely would have been more than sufficient. I do not however regret the purchase as now I have a full, strong, reliable Wi-Fi signal in the second bedroom as well, which is my cinema room. I also like the fact that each node has 2 RJ45 outputs on them, which is great for connecting additional devices by ethernet to the nodes, which is sometimes a preferable option. If you are experiencing poor Wi-Fi signals, Tenda is the kit to get, in my honest opinion. Quality at a fantastic price and highly recommended. Just be sure to opt for the model that most appropriately suits your home, especially if you are on a budget. One final note; when I initially set up the system I was getting upwards of 300Mbps, usually close to and sometimes just over 400Mbps, when testing the Wi-Fi on my phone, whilst near the Primary node. This morning I noticed that this had dropped to around 100Mbps. This was not caused by the Tenda Wi-Fi, it was the pitiful Virgin Hub 3 at its best! I gave the Hub 3 a "quick" reboot and now I'm back to +300Mbps.

This product is easy to install and works like a charm upon configuration. I have my WiFi router at a common place at home, there were constraints in signals to rooms due to walls in-between. I have used other products like WiFi extender which didn't help in anyway!. These two devices from Tenda is covering the WiFi signal across my home. The switchover from one device to other during the movement is seamless, overall WiFi performance is consistent across all the corners. The only reason I am giving 4 star is because there is a requirement for one among the device to be connected directly to WiFi router's LAN port as a Gateway. Other one will connect to Gateway over WiFi itself. So, I have turned off my WiFi router's SSID and using it as router to connect this Tenda gateway device.

Mw12 is way far better than mw3 mesh routers.
