Renew your saw.
I’m a tree trimmer. I use my hand saw to make a living. This is perfect. My saw is sharper then it was new. Takes a while to get it done but it is worth it.

It works well on the first sharpening
I'm not so sure how it will work long term. The "rough" (not very rough at all) diamond became quite smooth after just a couple of teeth were sharpened. It still sharpened the rest fine though. I think at this point a regular high quality file would be a better choice and much less expensive. I would probably go that way next time. The only thing is, can you find a high quality metal file, lots of cheap ones available. That's why I chose this one, I couldn't find a good brand name like Nicolson.

It does work on those hardend Japanese saw teeth!
It works well on my Silky saw blades, it cuts easily. Have only used it on Ex large an large tooth saws about 6 to 8 tpi? . The file does not need to be longer. One stroke usually takes off enough metal. Only damaged teeth need an extra stroke or two. Japanese saw blades are not the simplest to sharpen. Watch a you tube video or something first. You do have to clamp the blade correctly between two flat pieces of wood. (straight an level adjust for curve as needed) Take your time for good results. You do need to carefully lightly stone each side of the blade along the teeth when finished to remove any burrs on the teeth.I think this is workshop work not in the field work IMO. A finer grit file 400-600 would be very good to pair with it. I cant find one though. If anyone knows of a finer grit diamond feather file please let me know. The second half of the blade is easier than the first an so on! Practice as with all things makes them easier.

DIFFICULT
the file I received seemed very course and was difficult to use on a pole saw, I had better luck using a small triangle file, felt like I had more control.FYI, I do own other diamond plates for sharpening knives and love them, they have finer diamonds.I also think this sharpener was overpriced.

Good but expensive
The file is sturdy and versatility. During sharpening, it can stand gentle but steady pressure without showing signs of breaking or losing its diamond surface. It's also useful for deburring, sharpening drill bits between diameters of 1/4 inches down to 1/8 inches, and even smoothing out clipped toe nails. Its down side is price. It's the most expensive single file I've bought from Amazon; but that said, it has held up longer than other far less expensive diamond-surface files that I've purchased over time from Amazon.Scott

A good acquisition for owners of japanese saws.
Good size to give some licks to Japanese saws, even induction hardened teeth, i can extended the life of the blades instead of throwing them when you hit a nail or they get dull , being careful even the crosscut teeth can be sharpened, if you are used to sharpen western saws, i also reccomend this for your japanese intricate teeth pattern. It needs an initial wear of the diamond surface, after that it is smoother to file the teeth.

Great file. Saw metal flakes in 3 swipe.
Delivered fast. Works great in removing dull saw. But learner that I need to clean it first so wood debris dont clog up the file. Think I could have done this wet file as well.
