Tasty Cake-like Cookies
These Birthday Cake Soft Baked cookies were easy to make, and they taste like a cross between a cupcake and cookie when done. They're not as sweet as typical cookies, but frosting does add plenty of that if you want it. I did have two comments on baking, though:1) The instructions say to refrigerate the dough if it's too sticky to roll, but I recommend doing that even if they don't seem too sticky at first. About halfway through my batch, the dough got more sticky because it warmed up, but my hands were too coated at that point to easily put them into the fridge. I wound up with about a cookie's worth of dough stuck to my fingers at the end.2) Monitor cooking time closely. My oven has always landed within the time frame given on all the boxed mixes I've used across all brands, so I set these to the minimum amount expecting that to be a good starting point to check them. They were already overcooked at that time and probably could've been pulled a minute or two before the instructions stated. Obviously, ovens and locations as well as the type of cookie sheet used will alter the time needed, so others may have different experiences, but as this is the first time I haven't landed within a stated window, I thought it worth mentioning.Overall, though, these are good cake-like cookies that are easy and quick to make and provide a decent-sized batch of large cookies for a family treat or party snack. For those who like their sweets to be not-too-sweet, these are perfect as-is. For those who prefer more traditional sweetness, frosting them is recommended, but even better, these will make excellent ice cream sandwiches.

Great for ice cream cookies!!!
Now that we are getting into the warmer months, backyard BBQs and pool parties are around the corner. I like to keep frozen handheld snacks available to enjoy by the pool on a hot afternoon. Ice cream sandwiches are always a hit, especially if they are made with love at home. Betty Crocker's Soft Baked Birthday Cake-flavored mix is a great shortcut to creating home-baked creations, and works especially well for ice cream sandwiches because of their soft texture. The cookie batter comes together easily, in one bowl and with fewer steps than recipes for similar cookies. Bake, allow to cool, add a scoop of softened ice cream between two cookies (I like to use birthday cake ice cream made locally), then freeze. You can even make them your own, for example, by rolling the exposed ice cream filling with sprinkles for an extra-festive vibe.I can't tell the difference between these cookies and scratch-baked. If you and your kids love birthday cake flavors, you will love these cookies!

Caked up cookies
As opposed to a lot of cake flavored things this has the benefit of being basically a modified cake mix. So it's less birthday cake flavored and just cake in cookie form. Works out well I think. Just as easy to make as any other box mix, just combine the ingredients and mix. Low barrier to entry and the final product tasted good.

Cake, but cookies.
Got a chance to finally make these. These are fairly simple to put together, especially if you have a mixer. The whole birthday cake flavor to them is not my favorite, essentially just a yellow-cake ish taste with sprinkles inside the cookies to give it that frosted flavor. A bit too sweet if you ask me, without anything else going on, but they do come out with a nice airy fluffy consistency and warm up very nicely. Next time i'd go for other flavors but these aren't bad.

Tasty
I have an irrational love for sprinkles, so these were right up my alley. They do taste like cake and look fun and festive.

It's just cake
I don't see the difference between this and cake mix. When baked, the cookies puffed up quite a bit, like little cakes, with a soft fluffy texture just like cake, and it tastes exactly the same as cake mix. I know, I know- it's supposed to taste like cake. That's not what I mean. This doesn't just taste like cake- it is cake. If you made this mix and poured it into a cake pan instead of making cookie balls, you would get a cake. It's just a cake mix with a different label! It's a pretty good cake mix though. The recipe worked and they were tasty. It cooked up easily and turned out almost exactly like the pictures on the first try, rainbow sprinkles and all. And the price isn't bad either. So I'm not unhappy that I just got cake instead of merely cake-flavored cookies.

Soft, Sweet, Delicious - Love the Sprinkles
Overall, I really like this soft-baked birthday cake "batter" flavored cookie mix from Betty Crocker. They were super easy to make, have a nice cake-like texture, and the multi-colored sprinkles spread out within the cookies almost given them a festive vibe. They were great alone but also went well with some vanilla ice cream. Very happy with the mix!

Easy to Make, Delicious
These are super easy to make - just add the mix with eggs, a little water, and butter. Mix it up, make balls with the dough and bake. They come out nice and soft and taste delicious. You could add icing to them, but I think they are sweet enough as is and like them without the icing. Overall, these are a hit in our house.
