I have been making kombucha for a long time, but took a break and did not save one of my SCOBY's. when I wanted to start making it again it was cold and I did not want to make my own SCOBY as I had done in the past so I decided to try and buy one. Sadly I had to return it NO FAULT of the company it was packed very well (double bagged) but still broke due to poor handling. Pros As a long time kombucha maker these scobies looked healthy and were large They were packed very well, it took a lot of force to ruin the packaging They included 16 oz of starter liquid They had a booklet with instructions and recipes Con At no fault of the company I could not use them as the package was damaged so I cannot tell you if it make good konbucha :( But I would give it a try.

My package arrived undamaged and in good condition, i was a bit worried my first batch would take a long time to ferment since i ordered in freezing temps, but once in the 80 degree tea, it got to work quickly (5 days it was ready) and now on like the 5th batch it barely takes 3 days, very active pellicle growth off the original, and tons of yeast... and the flavor of the kombucha is perfect, i actually prefer this to any from the store, though i flavor most of mine in the second fermentation for fun and variety, its not needed to do so, this booch is good enough on its own, just add sugar to carbonate in bottle. Or, just drink it flat :p Maybe i just lucked out and got a very healthy starter, but if the quality is always this consistent, I'd recommend this brand to anyone

This kit has provided the best home kombucha set up I've tried so far. The large SCOBY was very healthy and so far (4 batches in) has continued to provide great, zingy kombucha and formed new SCOBYs. The packaging is as good as can be expected, because they are shipping a live product that is carbonated. Here's what you can probably expect if you order this: -My external box did not have any damage, but my internal packaging was wet from either the starter tea bottle or the SCOBY package leaking. -The instruction manual was wet and stuck together, so the pages were a little difficult to read. -The instructions also varied between the box, the instruction manual, and the actual SCOBY package, which was confusing. -The bottle of starter tea was bulged out significantly (again, it is carbonated), and I had to open it over the sink with a towel to help it not explode all over my kitchen. -The SCOBY package was leaking slightly. That said, none of those things are deal breakers in my opinion, because the set overall arrived very healthy. For my set up (I use a continuous brew container), it has continued to perform very well and make delicious kombucha. I would recommend this if you are not afraid of a little sticky mess at the beginning.

I received the starter and SCOBY within a day of ordering it, and I immediately made a batch of tea for kombucha. The starter was nice and strong and the SCOBY was nice and healthy. Within a few days I saw the kombucha fermenting and a new SCOBY forming. Directions on making the basic kombucha is included. For those new to making kombucha, there are lots of YouTube videos that take you through the process and share ideas for different flavors of kombucha that you can make at home. It’s really easy and super healthy! I have been making my own kombucha for several years, so I am not a newbie at this. This kit will get you started and from there you simply use your own kombucha and SCOBY to make additional batches of kombucha. In fact, if you treat your SCOBY right, you’ll end up making so many SCOBIES that you’ll give them away to friends and family so that they can make their own kombucha. Kombucha is delicious and homemade kombucha so much better than store bought kombucha! I drink kombucha instead of soda pop (kicked the soda pop habit when I started drinking healthy kombucha!).

I loved this Kombucha SCOBY! The quality of both the SCOBY and the starter tea was excellent. I actually received three young, healthy SCOBYs for the price of one. The starter tea was so good that I even used the extra to refresh another batch I had made with a different Amazon product that hadn’t turned out well... but this one fixed it completely!

I ordered this product on a recommendation from my son. He purchased it 3 years ago and has had no issues. He had just split his scoby for a friend, so suggested I just order a new one to get started. I purchased 2 kits. When the product arrived, similar to other reviewers, the scoby bag was almost ready to burst open. Both of the bottles for the starter were bulging and the bottoms were so distended so that it wouldn't stand up. My son thought this was strange because he didn't have this situation with his product. I made 2 batches per the instructions. After a week, my husband commented that the scoby looked fuzzy. I thought he didn't know what it should look like and didn't actually take a look for a couple more days. When I did, I realized the entire surface of the scoby/liquid was a layer of mold. I had to throw everything away. Unfortunately, this item is not returnable, so I am out the money spent for this product. I definitely would not recommend this product to anyone. The company seems to have very poor-quality control as others have had the same issues.

I'm an old hand at kombucha making, but haven't made any in a few years because it was taking up too much space in my refrigerator. I finally sprung for a beverage fridge and decided to get a batch going again, which meant I needed a SCOBY. This kit was the only one I found that included what I considered to be a reasonable amount of starter tea, and it was highly enough rated that I decided to go for it. As other reviewers have noted, both the plastic bag holding the SCOBY and the plastic bottle with the starter tea were under a great deal of pressure, and it's a little amazing that they didn't burst during shipping. They were definitely deformed! I would seriously suggest that either the packaging be modified to account for the amount of time this product is in the warehouse and en route to the customer or that the logistics be modified so that the product has less time from factory to customer. I seriously got the impression here that I was extremely lucky and that if it had been as much as a day or two more I would have had a real mess on my hands opening the package up. However, I have no complaints about the resulting kombucha. The kit produced a gallon of good quality product, and I've got a two and a half gallon second batch about ready to go into secondary ferment.

This was the right size for making kombucha by the gallon. The price was reasonable and instructions were easy to follow (even for someone who's had four strokes!). It's folded in half in the package, so just be aware that it needs to be unfolded. Appears to have been kept pretty fresh and at a good temperature, as to not spoil or ruin the SCOBY.
