William Newton's Complete Guide to Watercolour Painting Hardcover – January 1, 2014

This book was Cowdog's wish list for the holidays and I was happy to find it on Amazon. Not being artistic at all myself, I do not get the whole "painting boats and seascapes" thing but William Newton seems to be "the guy" in this subcategory of art instruction. The gift was happily received and is well on its way to being a favorite. If someone you know yearns to "go down to the sea" and paint ships, this is the book for them.

Just finished reading this watercolor book, very good info and a great addition to the artists library.

very easy to understand

Awesome 128 pages of valuable information. Just don't order both books as they are exactly the same. Covers some unique ways of sketching your subject which includes people as well as objects and scenes, demos, lists of the colors the artist used, etc. Valuable book to have and read.

PROS - He gives six step by step demonstrations. He does list the colors and materials at the beginning of each demonstration. I do like the two page full view of each painting at the end of the step by step process and the other example of similar paintings after that.CONS - He uses a lot of colors from seven to ten colors. He does not mention the size of the painting.

This is an excellent watercolour book. It is so well produced and beautifully illustrated. So even looking through it is inspirational. But it also contains a lot of instruction and how to. A must for any watercolour landscape painter. I think experienced artists would learn a lot from this book and not so experienced ones would find it very useful indeed.

Great painting, great book

I am sure that one of the things that leads you to buy a book on teaching watercolour or oils is whether or not the author's own painting style appeals to you. William Newton's did and I find myself with one of the best books on watercolour painting that I have read for years.Rather than repeat the other reviewers description of the contents, suffice to say that the book has really revitalised my interest in watercolour painting.
