At first, a funny smell. Day two it was gray looking and did not smell like sourdough starter. Third day it had some mold growing on it so I threw it out. I hope the seller can refund me or possibly replace it. I don’t know if The other pack that I got with it is of the same quality. . Not a very good starter. Probably will try the 2nd pack, Then move on. Here’s the review update. They sent me another package of this to try. I haven’t as of yet, but I can change the review some and up the number of stars. Thanks for sending again

This has made some absolutely delicious bread, especially following the 50/50 sourdough recipe on the Knead Ace website. I will always recommend the company now.

I revised the instructions and here is my updated version. One starter packet contains 1 oz (20 g). In step 4, the original instructions suggest discarding 6 oz and keeping only 3 oz in the jar, which means discarding about 2/3 of the first two days’ work. To avoid this, my adjustment is to use only 1/3 of the dry starter at the beginning. Modified Instructions: Step 1: Use 1/3 of the dry starter packet and add 20 g water. Stir 4 times over 3 hours. Step 2: Add 20 g unbleached flour and let sit for 24 hours. Step 3: Add 30 g water and 30 g unbleached flour, then wait 24 hours. Step 4: Add 90 g water and 90 g unbleached flour, then let sit for the final 24 hours.
