The pain of collecting
Years ago I had the original volumes. How I wished I hadn't sold those original volumes but bills needed to be paid. While the price has gone up the story is worth the financial hurt. This adaptation is worth every penny from the art to the added pieces put there to expand the story.

Came in perfect shape, the book is a beefy book too, as in width, I'm not sure how many pages but it's a good size and gave me a good time for writing it. This book is a bit more graphic than I expected, the blood and gore I saw coming and a bit of nudity but there are full on hentai (if you don't know what that is, Wikipedia it) scenes in here towards the end so I can't let my younger sibling get a hold of it but I guess that's okay, this is an 18+ book though.Overall the story was good, I was happy with the liberties they took and I feel like the variation between the novel, movie, and now manga are all well diversified, I actually prefer it because it would be kind of boring if you knew everything that was going to happen. No complaints here.

Not for the faint of heart
I never heard of Battle Royale until a friend told me it was like Berserk. Let me just say the violence is on par with Berserk but not only is it violent! It is heartbreaking. It is hard to explain due the fact I am not good with words. It felt like a psychological book because you get attached to the characters and you can see them breaking down, stressing out, and just plain going berserk (no pun intended) because these students in the program have to kill each other. It also shows that each charter in the program has a dark history behind them. If you are a prude or can not stand violence then DO NOT READ THIS BOOK. Overall, I loved the book and if you want a deep manga to read that will make you tear up, then pick this up. :)

Fantastic!
Fantastic meaning a little too over-the-top. I haven't read the novel but I've seen the movie and it's somewhat better because it's far more realistic.I'm not a manga reader but I do read indie comics and I would really have liked it if this series played it more straight than superhero-y. I have no idea what age 9th graders are in Japan but I'm guessing 15-17. It's ridiculous what these 9th graders can do. A 15 year old boy kung-fu'ing his way through 5 or 6 gangsters with guns. A 15 year old boy who never picked up a gun before shooting his way through 5 or 6 professional guards. A 15 year old girl with the breasts and libido of a silicone porn star. 15 year olds running prositution rings, gangs, etc. It's all kind of silly.Maybe all of this is part of manga. I dunno. If you turn off your logic centers and turn on that part of your brain that doesn't mind over the top pulp fiction and Batman comics then it's actually quite good. The stories, the way people or groups of people fall, the relationships, the backstories, all of that is great. But it all could have been done with less X-rated, beyond belief, unrealistic, superviolent kung-fu and hentai sex.

Favorite manga series
Battle royal is a manga series that grabs on and doesnt let go. It is dark but has humor. A lot of people compare it to the hunger games but this came first and is better. There is a lot of blood gore and nudity so make sure not to buy it for the kiddos but i cant recommend it enough for mature audiences.

great story, low quality.
Heavy yellowing, many stains on the exterior and pages including multiple sticky stains , last 150 pages are massively blurry to where it looks like you are squinting your eyes. Still a great story and happy to have it in my collection. But not sure about the price/quality ratio here.
