I'll never need another waffle maker
Years ago my in-laws treated our family to a wonderful Sunday brunch at a hotel restaurant in Rochester, New York. There was a chef on hand to make omlets and waffles. They had the "boat" waffle maker and as a young mother, I wanted one for my family. NEVER found one until now. Now that we have computers which can find anything that you may want or need. NOW I have this GREAT waffle maker and our first Grandchild is on its way!! I took this waffle maker with me up to our cottage for our guests. Not only does it have a little bell to tell you when it is done, the waffles come off the griddle clean. There is very little clean up unless you use too much batter. My husband is always cautious about my new purchases BUT he wanted to be in charge of making these Great waffles. Another reason I like it so much is that you can fill it with fruit, jams or whatever creative thing you want to. Now my BIG question is, why can't my girlfriend find it to buy it?? Thanks again VillaWare!! kt

Still so good after 2 years of weekly use!!
Yes I bought this 2 years ago and did not bother giving any review, I let my opinion grow ;) But after 2 years of "wow"s followed every use, I'm happy to give it my verdict: this little waffle maker is well worth buying, especially if you have little kids around, it's much fun to spent less than 10 minutes making a fun breakfast/snack/light meal, and I usually would use one third oat meal mixed with whole wheat flour to make it a bit healthier. My only complaint would be on the price of maple syrup, but that's another chapter I wouldn't visit any time soon : p)

different, but not better
I ordered this for my wife when her belgian waffle maker died after 15 years of regular use. Since I prefer fruit and whipped cream on my waffles instead of syrup, I thought the "boat" style waffles this makes would be better for that purpose. While the boat does hold fruit better, the quality of the waffles produced is not as good as that from a good quality belgian waffle maker. The center of the boat tended to be soft and undercooked when the bottom and edges were done. After two weeks of the wife and kids complaining about the waffles this maker produces, my wife bought another belgian waffle maker from a big chain store. Breakfast is a happy time again, and this little novelty occupies shelf space in my garage alongside the breadmaker, waiting for a garage sale.

Some good. Some bad
If you want a waffle maker to "load" extra fruit and whatever onto it, then this is your best choice. However, if you're like us and just want a regular waffle (with just syrup on it) then this one is not the best choice. The reason is because it makes waffles that aren't very thick. When you pour the batter (less than a 1/2 cup in each boat) into the 2 areas of the waffle maker it's best to pour it onto the center area of each "boat", and then let it run down into the sides of the "boats", because those thinner sides always get a lot more crisp and overdone than the center area.We use the Krusteaz brand of waffle mix (the kind that requires you to add eggs and milk, rather than the one that requires that you just add water). For the 2 of us we usually divide the recipe in half. So that is 1 (slightly packed) cup of mix, 1 egg, 1/8 cup of vegetable oil, and instead of a 1/2 cup of milk, I usually add 3/4 cup. That makes the batter turn out thinner, so that it easily runs down into the sides of the boats in the waffle maker. If you wait just a few seconds (after putting the batter onto the iron) before closing the lid (so that the bottom has a chance to setup slightly), then you won't have to worry about the batter running out the sides. The batter will instantly begin to rise, so don't be alarmed if it appears that you have put too much into the "boats".The reason I'm not giving this waffle-maker five stars is because of the thin sides that are created--which tend to get too over-done in the baking process. With the Krusteaz waffle-mix the waffles turn out golden brown and very light--and that's with the temperature set to just "1". Before plugging in the unit each time we spray a bit of cooking spray on a brush and lightly brush all areas of the waffle-maker. It heats up rapidily when first plugged in and the waffles bake very quickly after the batter is poured into the boats, but the thin texture of the waffles means that they cool off very rapidly, so we tend to rush to eat them while still hot.I was very pleased with the over all heavy construction of this unit, but just not happy with the thickness of the waffles. So I just placed an order for the same brand--but the round-shaped one. We will save this "boat" waffle maker for when we have fresh fruit from our backyard strawberry-patch and fresh peaches, blackberries, blueberries and rasberries from the area growers. One other thing I liked about this unit is the ease with which we are able to remove the "boats" from iron--even though the sides are pretty deep.I'm adding this paragraph in 2015 because I noticed that when we bought this unit (in 2009) we only paid $37.95 for it and now they're asking almost $400 for it. Now that's what you call inflation. What a rip-off!!!!!!!!!

Good value
Unit works good. Cooks a perfect waffle if you first spray with non-stick oil before each pour. "Done" signal low and hard to hear for us older folks.

Really great waffles...fun boats for fruits (and kids love)!!
This is a really neat waffle maker. It cooks them very fast and evenly. The boat shape is unique and neat--it begs one to add fruit or something else (chicken, bacon, ??)...It has a nice warning sound to tell you when it is ready and done, so in the morning rush to get kids to school we don't overcook the waffles. The temp must be just right because the texture comes out perfect. The thickness is just right too--it is not a belgian waffle maker, as the waffles this one makes are pretty thin which I prefer.

Awesome!
We have had so much fun with this waffle maker. Breakfast or dessert. Use your imagination. Our household is from ages 9 to 95. Everyone enjoys it. I have found the perfect setting is between 2 and 3. I use Krustez Belgian Waffle Mix and, instead of adding water, I add plain or any flavor SELTZER.(although water is OK too) Just plug in the iron, mix batter and the iron will be ready for you. Beeps when ready and beeps again when perfectly cooked. Perfect every time. Also, once seasoned, you don't need to use spray. Cleaning is almost not necessary and storage space is minimal. It's solved my Christmas 2010 shopping. Each family will be getting one. :) Enjoy
