Great guide, well updated
Loved the guide, used it on the road, and planning purposes. You do need to read carefully the day before your next leg of trip, there are quirky directions sometimes, and need to โbe thereโ to understand them.I used other guides for additional info regarding other sights and details along the way. But as written, this is the best guide - for novice. Did use google maps for getting around towns we stayed.

Great book for a great ride
My sister and I used this book as part of our ride from Passau to Vienna in July/Aug 2021. It was very informative about what side of the river to take and where to grab ferries across. We even bumped into other folks using the same book in different languages. To be clear, we didn't use it for places to stay. We only used it for routes to take and to find certain landmarks/highlights and things like groceries along the way.The book has each bank in different sections, so be warned you may need to find you place in two separate sections and flip back and forth among them to figure out your best options. But this was a small inconvenience compared to how much it helped plan our routes from day to day.(If you are curious about the ride, it's quite low-difficulty and very beautiful. We did it in 6 days with 5 days of riding. Our only issue was finding groceries or bakeries on a couple of the days, but nothing drastic. Highly recommended).

Inline Skating Across Austria
Used this to navigate our way across Austria on roller blades and it worked great. Very helpful on whatโs paved and whatโs not. Ran into some unexpected construction in Grein so had to ride on the highway- which was terrifying. But not the books fault haha. The only thing I wish theyโd of been more clear on is elevation changes/hills on any given side of the river. Itโs nice that they try not to be biased with what side is better but sometimes there really is a better side!

Only option. A must have
I did the trail and i couldn't have done without this book but the set up was cluttered. If you go off trail you may need detailed maps. I did get lost. Overall clear descriptions but there were some sections where you'd get " make left at houses and make a right at the bridge " those types of instructions were hard to follow when you're there in person especially while you're on the bike

The Rest of the trail
Great detail on the maps and helpful information. Can't find anything like this in USA. No problems with the order. We were not under any time constraints so there was no problem with delivery times. This really gives us ideas of where to stop and what to expect along the route. Can't think of a better way to see a country than by bike and these maps make it possible to get the most out of trip along the Danube. They are small enough to fit in the bike bag.

Very nearly complete guide to riding the Danube. Falls ...
Very nearly complete guide to riding the Danube. Falls a little short around Krems and Vienna, but don't attempt a self-guided ride without it.

Excellent book for biking the Danube
See my review of Book 4. You can't go wrong on this, though this portion of the route (EuroVelo 6) is fully signed and paved as it snakes along the Danube. Nonetheless, get the book.

Riding down the Danube
We took a cycling trip along the Danube River this summer and this book was very helpful in deciding routes along the river and towns to stop in. I would suggest getting a detailed map of the area as well. We had some challenges due to flooding along the river and we would often have to get off the cycling path and wind our way through streets before returning the the path.

Very useful purchase for our best holiday ever!
I bought this to go on our holiday last year and it was fantastic. We cycled the trail and the maps were easy to follow (even I could read them) so we didn't get lost once. It gives lots of information about places of interest so we got much more out of our trip than we would have without it. We loved getting it out the night before our next section and planning our day. There are trails on both sides of the river so it depended on what we wanted to see and what type of trail we wanted to travel on the next day. It was certainly comprehensive enough for us and we saw many things that we would not have known about and would have missed otherwise. It can't really convey just how beautiful the trail is. It is supposed to be the most popular trail in Europe but it didn't feel like it as we were generally the only cyclists we could see - its only when you stop and see others going past that you realise just how busy the paths are.If you are going to cycle this trail I would highly recommend this book as it will make it all straight forward and a more enriching experience. Good buy.

If only the weather had been as good as this guide!
If only the weather had been as good as this guide. I spent 5 days cycling the Danube way from Passau to Vienna in May 2014 with this guide book. I was fortunate that in May, it only rained for half of the week, with the rest in blazing sunshine! Typical Austrian weather. It is a superb guide, with lots of clear detail which made planning and riding the route quite stress free. There are now several large Information points along this route which could perhaps be highlighted more clearly in the guide, as they make excellent stopping off or meeting up points as well as providing some shelter from the weather or a place to change clothes. As another very minor 'critiscm' the scale can sometimes be deceptive when looking at villages or towns for accommodation, you can't always get a sense of how big some small hamlet is from the map if you, want to push on and risk finding somewhere to stay.I have just ordered volume 1 as I now hope to complete the first part of the ride this year.

A pleasant overview
Living in Vienna for several years as an expat, I wanted some guides to allow me to explore the countryside. I have already followed some trails on foot, but have not made any long-distance bike rides yet. I saw this on the shelves in German, but preferred to have one in English for easier use.The book is laid out nicely, splitting the trail into sections, either north or south bank of the Danube. The smaller map sections are at a good detail, although the explanatory text may be a page or two distant from the relevant map. There are details regarding local viewpoints and areas of interest, including some diversions at a small distance from the trail itself.Contact details for campsites, B&Bs, hotels, and suchlike are concise, as well as information regarding boats, rail connections, are concise and laid out according to distance along the route.I'm glad I've bought this, and looking forward to the clearer weather to put it into use!

A great cycle route
it takes a little getting used to the fact that the guide takes you down a long section of the north bank of the river then starts again with a description of the same section of river but on the south bank. Useful hints as to when to change from one river bank to the other. Invaluable for the campsites. A slightly more laminated finish for the pages would be useful for wet days. Fortunately our trip was all in the dry. It was only the day that my water bottle spilled on the book that I thought about the problem of a rainy day.

Doing this cycle ride next year, from the start ...
Doing this cycle ride next year, from the start down to Vienna. I can't give five stars because I don't know if it's truly accurate but the book looks to be exactly what I need to read before I go and then stick to the handlebars for the trip.
