This is a wonderful gift for a person with dementia. It runs on four C batteries and can be turned on and off, or muted so you can’t hear it. You need a small Philip’s head screwdriver to install the batteries. My father, who is 95 now, has had this dog for almost a year. He loved it from the first minute I gave it to him. He started talking to it and petting it. He was saying “you are a good boy buddy”, so we named the dog Buddy and I wrote his name on the scarf. It is so lifelike and soft, it is amazing. It barks, it wags his tail, it turns its head towards the person who is speaking, it has a heartbeat that you can hear when it is going to sleep. It’s mouth is always open so my father often tries to feed it, and we have to clean it. My dad is in a memory care facility, so it is wonderful companionship for him and all of the people living there also enjoy it. The first dog we bought got so dirty from my dad feeding it, that we decided to buy a second. It brings him so much joy, it is worth every penny.

I wasted A LOT of money buying cheaper versions for my mother, who has Alzheimer's. She played with them for a few hours, maybe a day, but then tired of them easily. I also thought about voice-activated robotic dogs, but they don't "feel" like the real thing, and they look and sound like toys, not dogs. But with THIS one, it was love at first sight. She has been playing with "Lola" for two days now and shows no signs of stopping. After only a few hours of playing with her, mom even said, " for a second I thought she was just a doll, then I remembered she is a live doggie!" She even asked me if "Lola" needed to got outside to do her business! Should have spent the money sooner. My only complaint is that, although the dog's limbs move into different positions, she doesn't stand on all fours or walk around. Oh well... can't have everything :) Edit to my original post: Mom has NEVER been soooo engaged by any of the other robotic pets I bought for her! It has been almost a month, and she is STILL not tired of her dog. She spends HOURS "talking" to "Lola". Worth every penny! 2nd Edit to original post: Two years after our original purchase and this dog is still Mom's preferred animal friend. "Lola" has kept Mom company during hospital stays, and has kept Mom happier and more relaxed than if she had been there alone. Another great benefit is that many employees who would never have stopped to talk with Mom now do so because of Lola's presence. Many who stopped to talk asked for details on how to buy "Lola", and of course I always refer them to Amazon

Suitable for young kids too. Bought one for my little nephew who is two year old. Taught him how to pet dogs in a gentle manner. The toy dog also kept him company when he’s engaging in learning activities and responds to his little toddler chats. Overall, it’s a good and interactive product.

*Reasonable price for this product!! *I spent $400 on a limited edition motion sensor Bradford Exchange doll that gurgles, coos and giggles etc, for Mum and she totally loves it. She has dementia. I bought the puppy for me however she keeps Mum (& Laura the doll) company most days. *To see the joy on the face of the one you give this too is priceless. *Highly recommend. Perhaps one day this company might make a cat for cat lovers that aren't able to have the real thing, like us.

Bought this companion dog to help with anxiety. I'm a trauma survivor and this dog does wonders for my mental health. She's absolutely fantastic. Shes calming, grounding, doesn't make sudden movements or terrifying sounds. I like that her front legs aren't fixed so she can lie down. Even when idle she makes occasional noises so you get the feeling you're not alone. The Joy for all pets are often marketed towards elderly but I honestly think all ages benefit from them. They're great if you're allergic or for some other reason can't or don't want to have a pet. I named my dog Cookie.
