8oz Roasted Whole Bean Minibarrel 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee

I love this wooden barrel. It is well made and looks exactly like the official product image. It stands about ten inches tall and has a wooden lid that is lined with hard white plastic, as is the barrel. I do not think it is insulated but it reminds me of a thermos. The lid lifts off, but seals air tight; perfect for storing your coffee in. The coffee that comes in this (when you buy it) is vacuum sealed in a foil bag. This was a one-time purchase for me as it is a bit expensive, but given that you have a permanent coffee storage I think it is worth it.Now, as to the coffee inside . . . people argue which coffee is best. I truly believe that Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee (available from various plantations) is far and away the smoothest and best coffee in the world. It is not as dark as a French roast or a Kona. It is more like a good red wine - not harsh or bitter, not overpowering; perfect with any meal (except fish). This means I have tried various JBM (blends and beans) over the years. I have fallen in love with Wallenford coffee because it is the best I have tasted yet. Also, they have been in business since 1760: these guys are "O.G." They have been growing and brewing JBM for generations - far longer than it has been a fad to drink. Their beans are consistent in size, flavor, and quality. Their ground beans are a bit darker in flavor than their fresh ones for some reason, but no less tasty.Here is the short version you may not like: This coffee is so damned good it will ruin you. After drinking this that stuff in the red can you buy in the supermarket (that I was raised on) will taste flat and dry, like sand.This is not a coffee most people can make a pot of every day, but it is worth the extra expense if you can drink it often. It makes food taste better. It works well in a standard drip coffee maker (use two filters to slow the brewing process it for best results) but if you can French press it, or boil purified water, add the right amount of coffee, and strain it, you will experience an explosion of flavor that will bring your tastebuds to life. It is obviously cheaper without the barrel, but as a one-time purchase, or a gift for someone you want to impress this can't be beat for anywhere near $100. Whomever you get this for will remember it forever.

I wish I could give this a 3.5 star as it's not really a 3 and not really a 4. The coffee is good. But I guess I expected it to be better because I read somewhere that it was prized as one of the best coffees in the world. We had a bit of a mix up getting coffee that tasted stale and gave us headaches the first time around. However, the customer service was impressive and they promptly apologized and replaced it, explaining that US Customs may have opened the bag. The second time we tried the coffee it tasted much better. Unfortunately, it still gave us headaches. So while I won't buy this coffee again, I'm glad I tried it. And I do love my little barrel. It will look great in my coffee themed kitchen.

Sure it's smooth & has no acidity. It also lacks flavor & the caffeine. I kept my beans tightly sealed & in the dark, ground only before use.

Very mellow and full flavor. Expensive, but worth if your a coffee drinker of means.back to jamaica
