Nothing else needed for zerk fittings.

Not sure about that one, I got it for my new zero turn.

Q: Not pushing grease. Extend rod, it auto locks insert tube, remove cap, release, plunger, and it gently goes in without any force. No grease comes out.

I had a similar problem with a grease gun I purchased. I thought I was going crazy. Finally returned it and purchased another which works fine. I did change brands though.
