Great book, just misleading pronunciations
This is overall a great starter book. I speak primarily English, but my husband is Greek. We have two children under two, but as a teacher, I want to start working with them early so they can be fluent in both Greek and English. I gave this book a 4 star rating because I love that it has the words written in English, followed by the word written in the Greek alphabet, and then the English pronunciation. As my husband and I read through this, it was mostly correct with the phonetics. However, as someone who has grown up speaking and teaching English, the pronunciations given can be misleading. For instance, in the English alphabet, the letter A can make the short “a” sound (as in “Apple”), long “a” (as in “ape”), but also the “a” as in “awe”. When the pronunciations were given in this book, they didn’t acknowledge which vowel sound to use. Look at the word “άσπρο” (white in English). The pronunciation is shown as A-spro. I know it is supposed to make the “ah” sound as in awesome. I also know the “o” should be a long O as in “oak”. Technically, it should read “AH-sproh” to depict the correct sounds. As it is written in the book, the reader could think it uses short vowels or long vowels on the wrong places. However, I do love that they show which syllable to emphasize by using capital letters in the pronunciations. I know to emphasize the syllables based on where the accents are but it’s nice to show new learners. The other note is that κίτρινο (yellow) is shown as “KI-tri-no” but is misleading because the i in English typically doesn’t make the long E sound, as in tree, but the correct pronunciation for this color would be to use long E’s like this: KEE-tree-noh. A few other things we noticed but this was the biggest reason why I took away a star.

Sooooo cute!
The colors are bright, the words are written in greek and with proper pronunciations in greek and in English. There are a few typos where it says to pronounce the word incorrectly but we know enough greek to read it the correct way. But over all the book is super cute and fun and easy to read. I love it.

very useful
Does the book exceeded my expectations. I like how it has a photo of a whole scene, Rather than just pictures of individual things. And I’m pleased to find the numbers and useful phrases in the back of the book.

False Advertising
I was so excited to gift this to my friend's baby. She is Greek and her husband is Puerto Rican. They had the cutest shower idea to give books to the baby instead of cards. I was disappointed in the inaccurate translations as well as the pictures which do not depict anything remotely close to Greek scenes. They are just generic cardstock photos. I then did some research and see this author has this book in other languages as well. I was horrified to see this. That means every language has the exact same scenes in their respective book? How criminal! This does not shed light on the different cultures that make our planet so great. You should be ashamed to reproduce the exact same generic pictures, use faulty translations and not teach anything. You chose to sacrifice the quality of teaching others about different cultures for the sake of quickened production and a quick buck.

Language learning by McDonalds
This book had plenty of potential to be great, but sadly it was made without the slightest bit of care. It’s a fast food cut and paste make a quick buck publication. Many of the words are incorrectly translated and the pictures have nothing to do with Greek culture. It’s thrown together like cafeteria slop on the plate. We as consumers really need to stop supporting these kind of exploitative productions.

Amazing.
Love this. Abit too old for my son to read yet but I'm excited. There's so much and I love the pronunciation added to help them. My partner checked and he said they are almost all right apart from a few words Greek Cypriots say differently which is not an issue! Great buy! :D

First child's bilingual Greek/English word book
I was delighted to find a child's bilingual dictionary with clear colourful pictures. It shows the English word, the Greek word, and pronounciation guidance. This is for my Niece of 4 years old who was born in this country speaking English and has Greek relatives. The only thing is that some words are a bit more of American style language. Nevertheless, a very good starter book. I had a difficult time trying to find a young child's book which was suitable, so well done for this one.
