Great childhood nostalgia and wonderful adventure stories
When I was a kid I had an old original copy of the "seven cities" comic book (that had been my father's), and it was my favorite story. This collection accurately reproduces the original. The images give a similar feeling to the original, and the printing is a good medium between over-modernization and the original low-resolution half-tone printing. These are great adventure stories from a time when books and comics were the only way to get that "Indiana Jones" experience. And of course this book contains the story that inspired the beginning of the first Indiana Jones movie. There's also a lot of the feeling (and several plot points) of the Seven Cities story in the 1999 Brendan Fraser movie "The Mummy" and I highly recommend the one for fans of the other. It's really delightful to find these stories available once again to inspire new generations.G.

Wonderful, lighthearted comics of old!
I used to read these stories as a child. I remember loving them, and spending many hours of fun by myself reading the adventures of Donald Duck, McScrooge, Rockerduck & Co. I wish I still had my original books!I’m now happy to share the same adventures with my kids, both under 11, and to see them enjoy these old tales just as much as I did! It brings back memories while fostering new ones. These stories are lighthearted, easy to understand, and capturing. I am planning on slowly buying them all and rebuild my old collection.Carl Barks, Giovan Battista Carpi, Don Rosa, you name it. I love them all.

The Seven Cities of Gold and More Adventures of Scrooge McDuck
The Seven Cities of Gold collects some of the Uncle Scrooge adventure stories Carl Barks did which inspired Disney's DuckTales, but is far better than the animated counterparts. In this chapter, while attempting to find a business he doesn't own, Scrooge sets out with Donald and their nephews on an arrowhead hunt, but ends up on a quest finding the Seven Cities of Cibola, with the Beagle Boys in tow. The interesting thing about this tale is the fact Barks includes a human within the Duckburg Universe, specifically when the Beagle Boys are getting ejected from the Relief Check office. Other than that, this adventure genuinely puts any Raiders story to shame.Other tales include Scrooge and his nephews dealing with a stone ray, chasing down a lemming with a locket, uncovering the Philosopher's Stone, entering a steam boat race, and many others which shows Barks' work at his finest. But the most memorable story in this anthology happens to be 'The Golden Fleecing,' mainly because this one specific tale had given Barks fits just to get Western Publishing to print it. Due to the censoring of comics in 1955, especially with Western Publishing heavily censoring Barks' mid-to-late Fifties work, 'The Golden Fleecing' was once considered unfit for publication. One problem was the fact the mythical characters in this story, the female bird creatures were originally known as Harpies, but back in the Fifties, the term 'Harpy' or 'Harpie' was an obscure slang for a streetwalker. But fortunately, Barks saved the story by renaming the characters as Larkies instead.Otherwise, I love how the story develops simply because Scrooge wants to make a coat out of gold, and learns the Golden Fleece does exist. But not in the way he expected. The collection is rounded out by Scrooge short gags, including McDuck's cunning on getting free coffee from Joe.Considering this collection brings back my favorite adventures with Scrooge McDuck, I find 'The Seven Cities of Gold' as one of Carl Barks' more unforgettable volumes. Even if you've never read an Uncle Scrooge comic before, I definitely recommend this volume.

Carl Barks redux
I grew up with the comic books that included the duck stories of Carl Barks. It is wonderful to relive them again in this series of books. Not just the stories themselves but reproductions of cover art. At the end of the book you’ll find short histories of each story and one-pager including any art that had been changed by Barks himself to tighten the story or at the request of his publisher. My one complaint is that the book is listed as being for a maximum age of 12 and at over 70 years of age I’m enjoying them with an older eye that notices deeper meanings and subtle humor to the stories than I did as a youngster.

Classic Stories
These stories are beautifully written and drawn. I first read them as a child, but I think I enjoy them more now. I'm grateful they're still available to the public. Suggestion to readers: look carefully at each panel, notice the choices that Barks makes. Everything is done with great care. Suggestion to Amazon: please produce more of these volumes in Kindle format.

Timeless entertainment!
Other reviewers have said it all; Carl Barks' Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge comics are fantastic in their art and stories. The stories themselves are timeless adventures, where humor and a bit of real-world history is presented in a way that doesn't speak down to younger readers, and doesn't make adults feel like they're reading kid comics. This is my second volume of many that I plan on purchasing, much appreciation to Fantagraphics for making this series possible!

Lemmings and Harpies
This is one of the series of old Bark's stories. I especially enjoyed the lemming story with the cheese loving little hemming. It has been about 20 years since I read that story before. It shows that Barks never visited Norway and he thought that everyone dresses in their national costumes :)The other great story is of the Harpies. Barks had to change the name of the Harpies to Larkies due to the request of the publisher. The sleepy dragon with the golden fleece was a great addition to the plot. It is unbelievable how Barks had so good plot ideas whereas the current writers now seem to copy his characters and plots.

These older Disney stories by Carl Barks are an absolute delight!
These older Disney stories by Carl Barks are an absolute delight! Whether you're a child or only a child at heart, you will enjoy these classic adventures. Carl Barks was the quintessential Disney storyteller, with a wonderful imagination and the ability to tell an ostensibly children's story with the pacing and sophistication to please an adult. I imagine that I am the typical target purchaser of these reissued stories, a middle aged person who remembers these stories from childhood who wants to pass on the enjoyment to the kids in his/her life (currently in my case, my nieces and nephews).I plan to purchase as many of these stories by Carl Barks (and Don Rosa as well who is no slouch himself) as I can.
