Handy Art Student Acrylic 32 ounce, Black Gesso

This black gesso covers well and applies as it it should. Note: The seller photos indicate it may be packaged as “gesso” or “acrylic medium”. These products are not the same thing and should not be sold interchangeably.

I love what I can do with the gesso by applying it to the canvas and letting it dry before beginning with the oil paints. It gives me the darks I want for certain paintings. Great product.What I did not like was how it was packaged. It was not in a sealed bag or container and it leaked all over the box and the other items I received with it. This also made it almost impossible to open since the gesso had dried in the cap.

This item had paint all over it on the outside - so much so that i thought it had leaked in delivery but i don't think it did. Wasnt happy about that since it's a brand new item i ordered, but i guess as long as the contents are good i shouldn't complain

I have tried quite a few black Gesso's and this one, is by far, my favorite! As you can see from my photos, this gesso goes on really nice and it's not too thick and it's not too thin, I feel it's just right and without all the streaks I normally get with other black Gesso's. (see photo's) Let me put it to you this way, I love this Gesso so much, I'm buying the big gallon bucket next time. Hands down my new favorite AND for such a great price!!! 5 Stars *****

When the product got to me, the top of the bottle was busted! The black gesso was all over the place!! I had to find something to put it in so that it wouldn't dry up!! Love the product, but they need to package it better!! I was very disappointed because a lot of the product was wasted!!

I have used this on many canvas for my acrylic paintings. It does take two coats to get good coverage. The coats dry fairly quickly. It is easy to clean, soap and water. It makes a great background for my space paintings. Will purchase again when I run out.

I read a couple of reviews that said this gesso was very thin. The gesso I got was quite thick and very opaque. I actually recommend thinning it a bit with water so that it soaks into bare canvas well and leaves the canvas weave visible. Make a couple of coats, brushing the second coat 90 degrees rom the first one so you don't get ridges.

i use it on everything

This was a great value for the amount of product. I normally use a different brand but there was a lot more in this size. Spread well and opaque. Perfect for what I needed it for. It does say not to pour it back into the container so start with just a little to avoid waste.

Good Product but lid will leak if tipped after open.

I use this for all my black canvass it works great.
