RSVP Berlino 18/8 Stainless Steel Iced Tea Long Drink Spoons, Set of 4

We purchased eight of these 15-20 years ago and have appreciated their simple design and excellent craftsmanship. After all, they're designed and made in Italy. So, when our daughter said she wanted iced tea spoons for Christmas, and I was able to locate the same ones (or so we thought) on Amazon, this purchase became a no-brainer. Who would have thought that the company that produced the beautifully crafted spoons we have enjoyed for so many years could have gone so far downhill as to market the poorly finished and marred product we received. Most of the edges were rough, (replete with crevices and burrs) as if someone removed them from the mold and didn't bother smoothing them -- both unsightly and downright dangerous. I say most of the edges "were" rough because I ended up spending a couple of hours in the basement smoothing them. Have you ever tried smoothing unfinished stainless steel? I ended up filing, sanding and then buffing all eight of them for more than two hours on Christmas Eve. And, I haven't mentioned the line across the face of the handle of each one -- all in the same place.I did a lot of muttering to myself while smoothing the edges, etc. and decided that the company no longer makes these in Italy but instead in a certain country that has become known for inexpensively, shoddy products. Only when, I finished my labors did I look at the label and realize they still claim to be manufactured in Italy. And, only now have I read the reviews of others with the same experience. They are telling the truth!

The quality of the spoons is fine. A couple of observations if you are considering buying these:1. The bowls are shallow, which is probably desirable in this context.2. The edges of the spoon at the point where one would hold it, while not sharp, are also not blunt. This is fine if you expect to mix drinks, but if you intend to eat soups or use them in any way that would require you to hold them for an extended period of time, they will dig into your skin where they rest on your fingers. I had thought they were perfect to eat yogurt out of large containers due to their length, but I cannot hold them for an extended period without first wrapping them in a tissue to blunt the edges.Overall, poor design, but serves the purpose.

I am extremely disappointed with the defective condition of the RSVP Berlino 18/8 Stainless Steel Iced Tea Long Drink Spoons and for the first time have had to disagree with all of the 4/5 star reviewer ratings. I could have purchased better quality and less expensive parfait spoons at a Thrift Shop!Purchasing flatware instead of silverware doesn't necessarily mean having to compromise to the extent of physical injury. Yet that is what would have occurred had I not run my finger along the edge of the bowls and noted that they had very sharp metal burrs from the metal press. (Thank you, Aless, for your 2-star review or I wouldn't have had the foresight.)Rather than return them, I merely filed them down until they were polished smooth. Now I will see if Berlino is telling the truth and they truly are 18/8 Stainless Steel or just plated. Seriously, Berlino – what's the point of going through the expense of making a Chromium/Nickel alloy spoon and then leaving sharp burrs along the edge? That's like sweeping a room and leaving the pile of dirt in the middle.

I looked at a gazillion iced tea spoons, in stores, and on line. Then, I found these!! Some others that I looked at were just down right ugly. AND way too expensive! These spoons, however, are not only well made (in Itlay!), but the price was so low for these spoons, I thought they would be junky, but decided to give them a shot. Wow!! They're anything but junky!! All my relatives, and friends are asking me where I got them, and couldn't believe the price when I told them how much they were. In hind sight, I should have told them they were a hundred dollars!! LOL But when I told them the price, at first they said yeah, right. I pulled them up on line and showed them. I think you guys are going to be getting a lot more orders for these now. So, when do I get my "finders fee???" LOL

Someone said that these have rough edges. Mine do not. None of my RSVP products have rough edges. I purposely ran my finger over all of the edges. All nice and smooth.I got this reach into my plastic honey bottle. My honey has crystallized and I have to reach in to get some out. I didn't have anything small enough yet long and strong enough. These work great. I am also able to put it on my magnetic strip to keep it in reach. I like the honey in hot lemonade. when it's snowy out.I like these. Very simple design. Goes with anything. Nicely finished. Strong. I'd buy again and recommend these.

On the plus : Heavy & Duty ;))) (will not bend under any heavy mixing;thick rice or ice cream,looks to me it's made out of very thick & HEAVY ,but steal and polished.On the BIG MINUS ;Workmanship is so bad, that after stamp-press machine on the factory the edges left to be undone and sent to consumer totally unfinished/rounded ,even a bit rounded . Because of it I 've cut my lip. Never saw Italian product made this bad ever.I 'm almost sure it's a scam. The mark "made in Italy" very uneven and not deep enough (scratch - like) on all spoon's.

Great product! These set of ice tea spoons are beautiful! I used them to give as a gift and they were lovely! I was very pleased with them!

Great basic design. I use them to stir my tea in deep insulated bottles and to get the last bit of condiment out of deep jars. Once you have them, you will find uses for them.
