**Pictures are for reference only and showcase the plants in general but are actual plants from my garden*. For the gardener who wants to try growing something unusual, carrion flower (Stapelia gigantea) certainly fits the bill. These plants aren’t exactly cactus but are members of the succulent group of plants. They are soft stemmed plants without spines, spreading out from a central point. Flowers are eye-catching, but it's their fragrance that truly catches your attention. That's because they smell like rotting meat. People find that the beauty of the flowers far outweighs their unusual smell. Description: The Starfish plant is a succulent with deeply ribbed, fat stems, toothed along the angles with a velvety surface, surprisingly soft to the touch. It bears large star-shaped five-petalled flowers up to 10 inches in diameter. The flowers are pale yellow with maroon lines, wrinkled, with a silky texture covered with purplish or crimson hairs. They have the smell of rotting flesh, in order to attract the flies which pollinate them. What you will receive: One well rooted starter size plant growing in a 2 1/2 inch pot. Plant will be about 4-5 inches tall. The plant will be shipped with a little soil in a plastic baggy. No pots. Plant your Starfish plant immediately upon receiving in a 4-inch pot. Place it in part shade for about 1-3 days and after that move slowly to final location. Direct planting of starter sizes into the landscape is not recommended.
