This toaster is the most expensive toaster we have ever purchased. I expected it to last and to produce excellent toast. It did neither. The toast has always been inconsistent. The bread would come out barely toasted on most settings. We'd have to re-insert it for further toasting and then it would burn. On high setting the bread would toast unevenly. Then the plunger to lower the toast into the toaster intermittently stopped working. It would not latch the the toast would pop back up and the toaster would not turn on. We'd have to unplug and plug the toaster back in to get it working again. Now it does not work at all. As I said, I expect a $200 toaster to last. This one worked poorly for less than 3 years. In my book, that makes it the worst toaster we've ever had.

After 20 years my reliable Magimix died. Any follow up toaster would have a tough act to follow. The Zwilling is nice enough. Takes up less space on the counter. It’s good looking. The slots are wide enough. It doesn’t toast evenly but not bad enough to return. Why not purchase a new Magimix, you ask. Many of the complaints stated the pop up knob quit working. That’s what happened after 20 years to me. Why buy a new model for a same issue in less time. I don’t think you’ll regret the Zwilling.

After 5 months of use, the lever to put the toasts down became extremely hard to pull down. My kids are not able to use the toaster anymore. I contacted their customer service but they are asking to send the defective unit (I have to pay for the return) and then they will send me a replacement after 4 to 6 weeks. So I would have to buy another toaster while I wait for a replacement. I will just buy another toaster instead of paying shipping for a damaged toaster.

This is the best toaster we have ever owned. So far, we have used it to toast bread, bagels, and English muffins. It takes a little (actually a lot) longer for the items to toast but they toast perfectly. It's well worth the wait. I make my expresso while I'm waiting for the toaster to finish doing its thing. The black toaster looks great on our black granite countertop so no reason to put it away after using it. It's easy to clean too.
