I have been using magnesium fire starters for years, I have found them to be one of the most reliable methods for starting a fire in a multitude of environments. I thought it might be a good idea to get a few packs of magnesium shavings to throw in bugout bags and survival packs. when I went to test out this product I found that it did not work at all. I even went so far as to hold a lighter on a pile of an entire sleeve and it never even sparked. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

Whatever these metal shavings are, they're not fire-starting quality magnesium. They have all the ignition properties of playground sand. Stick to dried pine needles and leaves for kindling a fire. Utterly useless and a waste of money.

30 seconds under a lighter only turned this to grey ash. A ferro rod had no effect. Save your money.
