ensky My Neighbor Totoro Origami Set

My brother loved it! Super cute, all the words are in Japanese but there's enough picture instructions for the origami. Good gift!

This set is great! The instructions are all in Japanese, but there are pictures that show you what to do. The characters all turned out really cute, and there is more than one sheet of each. Even my 7 year old son enjoyed making one of the easier mushroom designs.

Confusing directions make these origami figures more difficult to fold than the colorful, cute packaging suggests. Some of the designs are also frustratingly small, making it hard to execute the often finicky folds accurately.

What you see is what you get. Granted, considering it's official Ghibli/Totoro merchandise, you have to cut it a bit of slack, but it's pretty disappointing, honestly, when your kid opens up this cute little cardstock box only to find the saddest little package inside. You get one of each sheet and an illustrated guide (in Japanese, of course, but easy enough to follow, for the most part, without knowing the language) with directions on how to fold each piece.On to the actual folding --Honestly, the folding designs are terrible. This isn't really what I'd consider origami. It's certainly folded paper, but basically most - if not all of it - involves just sort of tucking bits backward to form the basic shapes in the front, and everything is just a mash of little folded corners in the back. Meaning basically everything is flat when all is said and done.If you like Totoro and don't mind inane paper folding, by all means, this is a very cute gift. Just don't expect any stellar results from it. It's a package aimed at kids, so I suppose you can't really expect too much.

I gave this as a gift to a little boy. He loves the movie and this set was one of his favorite gifts. Highly recommend for any young Totoro fan!
