EXPLAINS HOW CANCER CHANGES THINGS - GIVES KIDS AN OUTLET TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES
I ordered this book for my 8 year old nephew whose mom is battling terminal cancer. My nephew isn't usually one for activity books but he took to this one right away. He took the book to the hospital with him to visit him mom. The book talks about the many changes that occur in families and households - once a cancer diagnosis occurs. After each topic it touches on, there is space for kids to draw the way they view things. It has pages where you can draw a picture of your house before cancer and the facing page says to draw a picture of your house after cancer. It has a similar page that says draw a picture of your family before cancer, then draw a picture of your family after cancer. Its heartbreaking but beautiful since it gives my nephew an outlet to express his feelings and allows us to see the way he views things. The self-sharpening crayons included aren't the greatest and my nephew was upset there was no brown. He wanted to draw his mother's long beautiful hair before cancer. But he quickly announced she would have to have orange hair.I purchased a couple other cancer books for children but this activity book was the best purchase out of all of them. It really gives children the ability to express themselves. If you order this, maybe add a box of crayons to give with it so the child has more options at drawing their world the way they see it - rather than just in primary colors.I hate knowing any family would even need this book, but trust me - its worth it.To the other families out there struggling with cancer: I am sorry your family is going through this.

Important Book for Kids Who Love Someone With Cancer
As a mother of a five year old, explaining my cancer was difficult. This book has helped my daughter (age 5) be able to share her feelings with me and others in the family in a way that she may have not been able to do otherwise. I highly recommend it and think the conversations that come from this book are priceless. The beginning of the book shares a lot of important and helpful information for parents and caregivers. I will recommend this to other parents!

Highly recommended!
I purchased this book for a 10 year old girl whose mother is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer. It has been very therapeutic for her and has been a kick-starter for conversations on fear, hope, and a whole range of emotions. She was very quiet when she first found out about her mother's illness. She held so much in. This book has helped give her a voice on how she feels about the situation. She loves the crayons and loves using her creativity to express how she is feeling. Every child who has a parent with cancer needs this book. It has made a big difference in how she is coping with things.

Very Helpful
This coloring book really helped my kid understand that the seasons are just like people in a way that in the winter plants die and sometimes people do too and in the spring things are reborn and people are also born in the spring sometimes as well. It also sparks some creativity in her life. It also is kind of is like somebody to talk to she says it explains to her why she's sad and I think it really helps her.

My 6 year old son loves it!
I purchased this book for my 6 year old son (who is a middle child) who was having a hard time with my recent cancer diagnosis. He was having outbursts, crying spells, and throwing tantrums. This book really helped us to have a special time together just him and I and he was able to express his feelings in the pages. An excellent resource for your own child, or as a gift!

Very age appropriate for my 6 year old son so ...
Very age appropriate for my 6 year old son so we can talk about big subjects or feeling on his level of understanding. It's more of a guided coloring book. As a mother with metastatic breast cancer I find this very helpful.

Excellent but came with only 1 crayon...
Excellent book but I received it with only 1 blue crayon...because of what's going on in our life right now I don't have time to return the book and get one with all the crayons...kind of bummed about that.

Really helps kids
Really good I ripped the back page out as it's a making a welcome home banner for when the person recuvers. Bought to help my kid with her grandma's cancer as its termanil the last page was not appropriate. Other than that it's really helped gives kids a safe place to write there feelings down and helps them cope a bit better. All the best to anyone who buys.

What a great idea!
I bought this book for my daughter, who used to be terrified by the thought of cancer in her family and would not even talk to anyone about what she was worried about. This book made it less scary for her and now she is able to ask questions and accept the answers even if she didn't like them. I would recommend this book to any child, who has a relative affected by cancer. It helps children cope.
