Hikari 330337 Saki-Turtle Sticks, 7.05 oz, Black

I have a Florida Soft shell Turtle that I keep in a 60 gallon tank with an API/Rena canister filter rated for 300+ gallons and this food keeps the tank real clean. I also have a canister of Tetrafauna turtle food for my outside sliders but they have their water dumped and replaced every few days and so they do not have a filter. However, I know that Hikari is a highly praised brand for koi fish and turtles so my inside turtle gets hikari. I ran out of Hikari at one point and I gave tetra instead thinking why should I pay more for Hikari when I have like 10 pounds of tetra? I was so wrong. Two days into giving my soft shell tetra, it completely clouded the water and made the water look disgustingly unclean. Aquatic animal husbandry is one of my main hobbies and having unclear water does not fly for me. I can't stand the sight of it. So when this happened I ordered Hikari as fast as I could. After about 2 days again of replacing the food to Hikari I saw a major difference in water quality and it is back to being nice and clear. I'm not knocking Tetra as far as nutrition and quality, though for me Hikari is still superior, BUT for filtered water systems, this brand is amazing and better in that aspect than Tetrafauna turtle food.I would also like to add: I've smelled all different kinds of turtle foods throughout the years and this one is by far the freshest smelling. It smells heavily of thyme and lean meat, almost human food quality like. I can't quite explain it. If you order it you'll see what I mean.

Most importantly to the turtle she really likes this stuff.Most importantly to me, just as the package says , the product really keeps the water cleaner. I wouldn’t have thought it was possible but the water stays clear many many times longer than other foods I’ve tried.

Bigger than some turtle sticks. Really keeps water clear if your turtle doesn't eat them all . They crumble and go to the bottom. My turtle didnt like it at first, but now he adores it compared to cheaper food. He asks for these😁. there are a lot of vitamins in this food, even selenium, d3, biogin,zink, calcium, copper, folic acid, A, E, dried seaweed, oregano oil, cinnamon bark oil, garlic etc. First ingredients: fish meal, wheat flour, dried bakery product, soybean meal, dried yeast, wheat germ meal, flaked corn.... produced in JapanI came back to order 2nd oneMy turtle got 2 pits in his shell couple of weeks ago. What i do if he doesn't finish his food, i fish it out and put on a plate for later. So i cut d3 capsule and poured a little liquid on each piece, then i sprinkled calcium carbonate powder on them and put em next to a heater. They hardened with d3 & calcium on them. I make a fresh batch every 2-3days and give him a couple of these first before he eats. Pits filled up!!!! my two eastern painted turtles love these so much. they have had these for about a year now, yet they still go crazy over them. whenever I lift my hand above the tank and they see the food, they immediately start swimming upwards and splashing water everywhere. it has a great and strong scent to it, that I think every turtle would love. smells fresh and does not make water murky. will be buying again.

Seemed like a tasty treat for my turtles but they are picky and wouldn’t eat it ; has kind of a strong aroma but if I was a turtle I’d probably eat it.

World's pickiest turtle approved! My turtle is extremely picky and will send himself on a hunger strike if you don't give him exactly what he wants. (For example, if he wants a waxworms and you give him black soldier fly larvae aka calci worms, he won't eat them. Or regular frozen shrimp chopped up instead of salad shrimp. Or Mazuri instead of Zoo med. Etc). He never says no to these though. So these are always my fallback plan when he refuses his varied diet.One of the perks for me is that it doesn't disintegrate after getting soggy and doesn't cloud the water a single bit! Win win. Hoorah!

Don't regret the purchase.

I’ve used several turtle food varieties and a number of them cause very obvious odor to the water. I’ve been feeding this diet as Tokka’s staple for a while now, and the water is for free. She loves it too! Although that isn’t necessarily saying anything, since she’s a bit of a pig that greedily eats anything I offer.
