Rode NTG2 condenser shotgun mic - excellent buy
I got the Rode NTG2 boom condenser mic to add to my equipment to record my videos for Youtube. I had been using an AKG dynamic mic but this needs to be close to my mouth so my face was partially blocked by the mic! The Rode picks up my voice comfortably from a foot away, so I position it just out of the camera coverage. Its pick up is amazing and fits into a clip supplied with the mic. The mic also comes with a zipper pouch that has a wind protector for use outdoors in windy conditions. The Rode delivers absolute professional sound so you will not need any more mics beyond this. My camera shoots good video but has a lousy mic, so I match the Rode recording with the video. Meets my requirements more than adequately. I would definitely recommend it for the Indian environment. Please note that it is a condenser mic, so it's super sensitive. It's not suitable for holding in your hand and recording. Also it will pick up background unwanted loud sounds. I plug the XLR cable from the mic right into my USB sound card interface (Scarlett 6i6 Focusrite). I clean out any residual noise in Adobe Audition. The results are just awesome. The delivery and packaging was of Amazon standard and I paid CoD. I have given it 4 stars because one of the XLR pins of the mic sticks out a little more than the others. I feel that's a defect. Anyway, the XLR cable fits on it.

Though it is cheap, but the mic gain is low, you have to adjust gain form preamp. I purchased this product form product. But today I checked in Kolkata local market, it is much more cheap than Amazon.

For years, I used a couple of Beyer shotgun mics for filming which were brilliant. Of course, they were very expensive but `you get what you pay for'. When I looked for a new mic the budget didn't stretch to the £500 - £800 mark so decided to buy the Rode having been impressed with the brand in the past. I am not kidding, I prefer the Rode! It handles sound beautifully, is extremely directional while eliminating unwanted noise and performs faultlessly in many challenging conditions. Yes, there is handling noise so you have to be a little careful to mount it in such a way that this doesn't interfere with you recordings, but that's a small issue and common with more expensive products too. Comes with a foam sock, mount and ten year warranty...which is amazing when you think about the cost you're paying. I've always considered mics an inexact science as there are so many variables. But this Rode mic proves that broadcast quality is available for £150 and I would, without hesitation, buy another. Just a note...buy the NT2 if you can. For the small additional amount, the battery option gives true flexibility.
