Lonely Planet Barcelona (Travel Guide) Paperback – November 1, 2012

This book is a must-have if you are a first-time traveler to Barcelona. It is has clear maps and great suggestions for top spots to hit no matter what your taste. The one criticism I have is that their suggestions for how much you can cover/see in one day is outrageous and seemingly impossible. Even if you have the best sense of direction and could easily find each and every location, I think the amount of sights they seem to be able to fit into one day is unrealistic.

It could be that I am not familiar enough with going back and forth in an e-book. So, the problem could be me ande not the book. I will try again, but, with a different book.I was hoping it would be easier to carry the travel guide on my Android tablet while in Barcelona. But, I had problems finding where I was in the book.

Having it on both my Iphone and android Tablet was very useful. I visited nearly all the top 10 sites finding this function very useful. Regarding maps i was a littlebit difficult to use when around the town and not online.

I downloaded this on the kindle and it was brilliant as once I connected my kindle to wifi, we could use the google maps. Loved it and loved Barcelona!!!! We found out on the last day that if you take cash out at the ATM you can book tickets to Sagrida de Familia, they let you skip the queue. Also go up Christopher Columbus!! Amazing views xxx

This book was useful, and it kept me from getting too lost or confused on my recent short trip to Barcelona. I would recommend it.

Unlike other Lonely Planet guides I've relied on, I'm sorry to say that although this guide was full of information, it was poorly organized and difficult to relocate sites without thumbing through many pages.

Maps were invaluable, although restaurant suggestions were a bit off

We used TripAdvisor to find places to stay and eat. We used this book to gain some insight to the city. I looked at all the available guides to Barcelona and Lonely Planet's was by far the most comprehensive and wise.

Lonely Planet guides are invaluable for their wealth of information, local advice and honest reviews of a huge range of attractions and locations in the city. The handy map at the back is great for when you get lost (even includes a subway map) and the restaurant reviews cater for all budgets and tastes. A nice touch is that the average price of a main course/tapas dish is shown for each restaurant -handy for travelers on a budget!My only slight nag with it is that it is organised by district. This is sometimes very helpful, but not so good if you are trying to find a particular activity and don't know which district it might be in. Of course that's what the index is for - I think it's personal preference, it depends how you're trying to use it. I found it slowed me down enough to give it 4*s, although the content itself more than makes up for this.

The content is very interesting and it's certainly worth reading, but as a guide book it fails to guide you. The maps are very disjointed and for some reason Lonely Planet don't have north point upwards like everyone else uses, so it makes comparing them to other maps a little weird.More annoyingly, an article will tell you that the site/bar/hotel/etc it's discussing can be found on the map on page X, so you go to the map on page X and whilst that map will have several other sites (or whatever) listed, it won't have the one you're looking for in the legend. You're left wondering if they've pointed you to the wrong map or if they've just forgotten to mark the map - either way, you have no idea where it is...

It was our first trip to Barcelona - but hopefully not our last! We already had some ideas of where to go and what to see, but this travel guide gave us some more suggestions which were really helpful. It was particularly good for advice on restaurants and bars - we found a couple of absolute gems! Also great if you want to explore parts of the city which are slightly off the beaten track.

This book was totally invaluable for a 2x day visit to the city. We found incredible places to eat and drink and it must have saved us hours of wandering and pondering. A must if you are only in Barcelona for a short period of time.

Going to Barcelona soon. This book has made confident that I'm going to get the best out of my time there. Can't wait.
