Norton Door Control 8501HX689 8500 Series, 009256

The website descriptions of various door closers are not very good, including Norton's. After purchasing and returning 2 different door closers (1 from LCN and a different model from Norton), I called Norton to find out WHAT MODEL would give me what I wanted - to be able to hold the door open by pushing it past a certain point. This one (finally) did what we needed, but it is also just much better all around versus the other brand I tried (LCN). Norton has much better installation directions, closes smoother, has the easiest hold open feature, and the plastic casing screwed in so it doesn't fall off! It cost me plenty to learn all of that, because I had to pay my handyman to install and uninstall the LCN, and even though he stopped short of installing the second purchase - he still came and looked through everything before realizing that wouldn't do what I wanted either. So we are happy with where we ended up, but WHY can't the manufacturers say on the Amazon descriptions what each thing does and doesn't do?? Thank you, Amazon, for the easy returns.
