NO BITES! WOOHOO!!!
I needed an insect repellent and needed it delivered the same day as we were heading to a friend's "cottage" the next morning, and this product was one of the options. I thought I'd give it a try and now, 2 days after returning from the trip have already recommended it to 3 people. This is FANTASTIC!! My son is quite allergic to mosquito bites (once, he had a bite by his left temple and the whole side of his face swelled almost to the point where his eye was swollen shut) so I was pretty nervous about the "cottage" since it is carved out of the deep woods in northern Wisconsin. The cottage was a camper, so we slept in a tent and were outside the entire time - the only clearing of the woods was for the camper, the tent and the fire pit, so mosquitoes were abundant. As soon as we got there I applied this to all exposed skin areas for myself and my son, then used Deep Woods Off on our clothing. My wife opted for Off all over. I applied it at 4pm, went to bed at 11pm.My son came home the next morning with ZERO bites. I came home with one - in the middle of my back (where I had not applied this lotion) and through my shirt (where I had applied Off). My wife came home with about 7-8 bites.PROS:- Goes on like a lotion, so if you do it right you ensure complete coverage, unlike a spray where you could miss (and half of what you spray doesn't land on your skin, anyway). Get under the tops of your socks, up inside your shorts and sleeves, ears, neck, face...- Almost no smell at all. Perhaps a little at first, very mild, but dissipates right away.- You're not inhaling it like you do with sprays.- It lasts. Not sure about 12 hours, but it lasted for us for at least 7 hours - one application. While wearing shorts/short sleeves.CONS:- It feels a bit greasy once it's on. It still feels a bit greasy hours later, but it doesn't look greasy.- Small tubes - only 2 oz. That said, one application covered my and my 7 year old, and I could probably do that at least 2-3 more times out of this one tube.NEUTRAL:- We still had clouds of skeeters buzzing around us. It's not purported to be a magical energy barrier that keeps them from flying all around you, but it does keep them from biting you.- They will still bite where you don't apply it. That's not the fault of the product, it's yours. When putting it on, think like a skeeter - where can they get to? And yes, they bite through fabric so either treat the clothing or treat yourself.

For when you shouldn't spray
I bought this bug lotion years ago for a trip out west that didn't allow for aerosols and it worked great, went on easy and clean and kept bugs off of me. I used the original tube for a while with no issues, it did separate a bit after being stored in the car (which made me knock off a star). However, it's still the best out there and actually works.

Worth the money and the "hassle"
So I was not "mom of the year" when I sent my 11 year old son off to Nature Camp with a cream bug repellent versus the ease of a spray. But I knew the mosquitoes were vicious and based on reviews I had to give my baby boy the best without me being there. As we waited in line for registration I used some myself. I was in a sundress and I knew post registration meant heading over to unload at the tent site. When we pulled up to unload at the site, upon opening the car doors we were swarmed by at least 50 mosquitoes, 20 of which entered my car. I am usually one to be eaten alive, so I was pleasantly surprised they did not take much interest in me. My vehicle had three other bodies, including my son, who insisted on spraying himself with a can. After setting up in the tent and my son changing for his swimming test, he informed me that he had applied the cream as I had suggested. I left the camp thinking he just might make it home ok. I just received word from one of the counselors who had to leave camp on day 4 due to illness being caused by the amount of bites she had received. She said absolutely nothing was working and everyone was trying everyone else's stuff, except for my son in which the bugs have taken absolutely no interest. (Due to the small size they did not want to use up his product.) Hmmmmmmm.... I think I just might be the "Rockingest mommy of the year" yet :) I will have to see what he says when he comes home - but it looks like the review were right and a little of this product not only goes a long way but actually works! I know it did for me and that says a lot!!UPDATE: My son confirmed he only had two bites from Sunday at 3 pm through Thursday morning. He then did get a bit lazier, and while still using the cream on his face and arms, was using camp spray for his legs. He asked me how in the world mosquitoes could bite through socks and shoes...well, they obviously can. Next time he says he will use the cream on his feet before getting dressed. He still came home with the least amount of bites and most of the bites he got were from his knees down on Thursday and Friday when he opted for the more convenient spray that was only somewhat helpful :)

Works in India!
I was in Kolkata and other rural regions of India along the river and it was hot with humidity like I’ve never experienced before in my life (my socks fused to my LED cured gel toe nail polish if that gives you any idea to the severity). I brought along this mosquito lotion because my travel nurse said this was the only one she would suggest. She was right!! My friends with me got bit a handful of times with some other deet spray they brought, but I did not get bit once the whole week and a half I was there - and the mosquitos were reealll y’all!I was even speaking to a village one night next to the water so they hooked up florescent lights next to and behind me. They wanted everyone to be able to see me but I was getting swarmed by mosquitos because of the lights. I was silently in a panic and tried to inconspicuously move over some, but they were all up in my business. I mean a pretty gross lot of them. I walked away that night without a single puncture. I was super sweaty too which made the thick lotion feel a bit yucky, but I figured it was better to feel a little uncomfortable than get tagged by a mosquito in India. So yes, the lotion is a little thick, but if you truly need the protection, I can’t recommend anything else. I only use this now, even at home (California) and even on my toddler granddaughter. She’s a poor little pin cushion, like her grandma, unless I put this stuff on her. When the Ultrathon lotion is on tho’, she doesn’t get touched. It’s worth the layer, trust me.
