Consummate Eye Candy book
A utterly phenomenal achievement of transformation of space. This book brilliantly showcases, on every single page, Howard Slatkin's vision that turned a bare bones, plain-Jane, apartment in New York City, into his personal--yet very liveable--museum of treasures. Opulent yet approachable, every space is detailed from the ground up, starting with a basic reconfiguration of existing rooms. Layers of various architectural and decorative details were applied to each space with great craftsmanship; acknowledgement and credit is given to the craftsman who were responsible for creating the "Old World" style and the book's pages are peppered with "before" and "after" pictures. The array of Mr. Slatkin's personal collections on display throughout the apartment must rival those of some museums. The inspiration for the room's decor and a photo of the actual palace room where inspiration for Mr. Slatkin's room was first conceived, is an added layer of interest for the reader. This publication is perhaps the consummate 'decorative arts eye-candy' coffee table book. It's a book that one can pick up and open to any page and spend pleasurable moments simply absorbing the decorative, elegant and lavish trappings in detail. Indeed, to this reader, the book is like a box of rich chocolates~something to be enjoyed in measure, to be savored slowly. I will return to the pages again and again.

A Future So Bright, You Gotta Wear Shages
This has got to be the most opulent interior I have ever seen. If you are not into the "more is more" philosophy, this will cause you to question the writer's sanity. As for me, I can't say I would ever tire of just sitting at any vantage point in any room and just appreciating the accumulation of beautiful objects. Not that I would want to be the person who had to clean or even dust this apartment's contents, but if you live like this then you have a domestic staff to do those tiresome chores for you. All in all, I never tire of just opening this book and looking at the beauty Mr. Slatkin lives with.

A Visual Feast!
What a visual delight! The photography in this book is amazing and comprehensive of the details of the apartment. Mr. Slatkin's love of beautiful objects is expressed throughout the book as is details of how to live in such a wonderful home. With the turn of each page, the reader is greeted with images of simply the best of the best. Minimalists beware! These interiors are composed of the layered look. This book is for those who enjoy wonderful interiors composed of gorgeous objects. Upon reaching the end of this book, I instantly thought of Ann Getty's book. Mr. Slatkin and Mrs. Getty are definitley cut from the same cloth. If you love this book, look into Mrs. Getty's book too.

Fifth Avenue Style is an absolute treat, especially for all of us that can't and don't live on Fifth Ave. The concept of the book is genius as it explores every room and every detail (and let me tell you the details alone are purchase worthy) of Howard Slatkin's Fifth Avenue apartment. We all know that people uptown live well, but this is really living, almost regal, an introduction into a whole new world. It's a delightful journey and i was enthralled with the design and the exquisite details, as well as, the floor plan and the organization of a proper house. buy it, get it, enjoy it- Fifth Avenue Style isn't only inspiring it's a beautiful gift for the holidays!

Beautiful and Bold Book for the Coffee Table
First let me say that I purchased a couple of home design(er) books and this book was not one I expected to really enjoy, in fact I was certain I would return it. I was very wrong and happy to be. I wanted a book that was coffee table beautiful with elegant, bold and rich photographs of an interior home and provide some detail on how to create the same. Howard Slatkin got it in one with this book. I highly recommend to others looking for same.

A Stunningly Beautiful Journey into the Home of a Master!
As an interior designer, Howard Slatkin is the master of opulent style. The stunning beauty that emerged from his extreme attention to detail left me both breathless and enraptured. Of course, Slatkin's use of a variety of materials, color, pattern and textiles is also amazing. His creative eye and attention to the smallest of details inspires the reader to pay close attention to those in their own home: the doorknobs and switchplates, the ceiling, the closets.... the list goes on. I treasure this book. And wish he'd publish another!

A warm bath for aesthetes
This book means indulging in beauty. It is like relaxing in a warm bath. Beautiful pictures of a beautiful interior, an interior so over-the-top that it becomes a beauty in its own right. The combination with motivations about why certain decorations are used, the philosophy behind it, materials used, ideas about colors and light, makes it a valuable source of inspiration.Do you want to please an aesthete with Christmas, here is your present!Dr. O.S. van Hees, Museum Conservator, Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Simply extraordinary
Simply beautiful but don't imagine being able to reproduce anything. This book shows rare, unique, beautiful collection items, fantastic eclectic harmony, a dreaming and luxurious world where you would love to live. You might find some affordable ideas, but this book is essentially offering beauty for the eyes and material to imagination. It also proves for who would still have some doubts that American homes can be far more beautiful than some European palaces; It is not about decoration but about culture, art, art of living, true savoir-vivre. A beautiful book to keep for yourself or to offer.

great apartment; great book!!
I am absolutely delighted by the picture book of H.S. He gives me so many ideas to implemented in my own Apartment here in the City of Bonn on the Rhine-River in Western Germany. When I get to NYC, I would be happy to see the apartment of H.S. in Person. Certainly he has a great passion for collecting, but I think that is o.k.. I love to collecting too, that's why I love that book. In addition to the books of NY apartmets I have "NY Apartments Private Views; Manhattan Classic & Private NY Remakable Residences", is the book of H.S. the fourth one in that category.
