Sony Digital8 Camcorder DCR-TRV460 Sony Handycam Digital8 Player Hi8 Camcorder (Renewed)

I had about 50-60 tapes I wanted to save. My original camera died years ago and I was cleaning out storage and came across my tapes. This was an EXCELLENT option to save them. The price of the camera was well worth it. The camera worked just as expected out of the box and I was well into saving off my tapes to my PC via firewire. I could not have been happier!!! But after about 20 tapes, the loading mechanism somehow started jamming internally. It kept popping up the error "C:31:23". So I only got 20 tapes saved :(. These cameras are old, refurbished and probably well used. So something like is to be expected. I just wish I had got all my tapes saved before it happened. Extremely disappointed that I can no longer save the rest of my memories :( :( :(

I was very hesitant to order what was a "reconditioned"(albeit by an Amazon refurbisher) item as potentially faulty as an 8mm camcorder. But it was my only real choice for dubbing 100s of tapes to CD for more permanent and accessible copies. It was received promptly, packaged exactly as described, neatly packed with all accessories (except remote which was not included but would likely make using it easier). I immediately tested in (after some long forgotten operation things), loaded it - it worked perfectly as did the accessories on a monitor. I added it to a digital work center to begin dubbing and I am still in the process of sorting the dozens of tapes and cataloging their various content for editing. I am very happy but kind of now wish I would have gotten an 8mm tape player instead which would be much easier to load/unload operate for what I am doing and may still order one anyway - the price on these is extremely attractive and competitive. This camera didn’t work and was returned

The refurbished camcorder came as advertised, including the S-Video throughput mentioned in the product specification. This device allows any analog source (i.e. a VCR) to "pass through" the digital circuitry then output as a digital signal to computer for highest quality video preservation. I am completely satisfied with this purchase! One final note on this product: These folks provide a tremendous service and should be acknowledged for it! Refurbishing these obsolete digital cameras is the only opportunity to retrieve old home movie footage from Hi8 tapes. Some commenters complain that it's "not new," 'lacking original packaging," or (the best!) "It costs much more than my old video camera." People simply don't understand the expertise involved to get an old machine operationally back to functional standards. Thank you for the amazing and professional workmanship!

I purchased this camera to transfer my old video tapes to my computer. The camera works great, and now I have saved old videos and memories. This was a "renewed" camera, but it is very clean and in really good condition. I am very pleased with this purchase.

No sound

I want this unit for playback of HI8 tapes. I have just done a preliminary test and all appears good. If there was a remote and an original box I would have thought that the unit was brand new.

My dad had one in which he was transferring old home movies to digital. His old one died and I bought him this one. So far he has been able to use this to continue on his work.
