the book came in and looks great, it was a gift and my friend was very happy with it. i wish i could have sent a gift card tho.. that was not an option he seems very happy with it. and it arrived close to when they said it would. thank you

Poor Production Values, In Particular, Unsuitable Type Face Used!
I already have the combined one volume edition of this book published by Penguin about 15 years ago. Unfortunately, the two-volume edition now available is simply not good as the earlier single volume edition in terms of paper, binding, typography, layout etc. Since my earlier single volume edition was getting old, I thought that I should get this two volume edition. After seeing the poor production values of this two-volume edition I have returned my purchase for a refund. The main problem of current day publishing is that they use such poor type-faces like Arial, Swift, Garamond, etc., which are unsuitable for the print media.

) Hardcover edition :) Brought this on jan 2018 because watched the movie Julie & Julia a biographical film on television, (finished on 10th march 21) This is not really a book to "finish". I will come back to this over and over. Its excellent. I made mushroom soup, french onion soup, and cassoulet. By the by, if you look it up on you tube there is an entire series that corresponds to these recipes that she did More over .Julia takes you through the basics--how to stock your kitchen, how to chop a mushroom, how to make a quiche, how to roast a chicken, etc. The book is a staple for a dinner party...or to answer a random question that comes up about food ♥️I love adding wine in mayonnaise ♥️ The best recipe book I have ever had! No competition for Julia Child :) Recipes are so precise and tested. You can trust this book ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Well written, and easy to follow recipes for the cook in every family. Was a gift for mom, and she has already used several sauces to change up her usual recipes.

This is a recipe book for the serious cook. You don’t have to be a good cook just follow the directions and your food will be fantastic. There are no pictures but as these are classical dishes they aren’t really necessary. There are suggestions for what else to eat as a meal. These are probably not everyday recipes but more for special occasions and of course there is no thought to health. But in the years that this book was created no one was over weight. And excellant book and the second volume too.

Do NOT buy either of the latest re-issued paperback editions of Mastering the Art of French Cooking Vol.1 and 2. The font size is appallingly and unreadably tiny. Cheap and nasty. A cookbook should be attractively designed both for use and browsing--it is impossible to read this one either for pleasure or use. I have just returned both volumes, bought as a gift for my husband, who has better eyesight than me but was unable to cope with or enjoy the small and miserable font. No idea if the new hardback issues of these books are better designed. If in doubt, source an old edition.
