This works fine - easy to set up.
I down loaded the app and everything was easy to set up. I did not try to figure anything out. I just looked at the big temp number. When my phone is sleeping the temp is still on the screen. At 190 degrees my bread was cooked to perfection. No more over cook or undercooked food. I can keep an eye on the temp on my cell phone. The only problem I had was to remove the paper to install the battery. But eventually I got it apart and that was all there was to it.

A great device with some room for improvement
I needed a thermometer for cheese-making, which involves heating milk to precise temperatures slowly. For a couple of years I've used a meat thermometer but it requires frequent monitoring to ensure the milk doesn't go over the prescribed temperature, and, the small markings on the face of the thermometer made it difficult to easily see the temperature. My search for a new thermometer started with simply looking for something with a larger face and lines marking off every degree instead of every other degree. But, when I saw this device, I decided to give it a try.I've now made around 10 batches of cheese with this and I LOVE it. There was a little bit of a learning curve. My biggest mistake was thinking I needed to press in on the power button both to turn it on and off. Once I figured out that turning on is one simple button push and turning off is done by holding it down.....I haven't faltered since. The app to use the device on my phone was easy to find and download and not hard to learn to use either. I have created a number of custom preset temperatures for the different styles of cheese, and I have complete confidence in the unit to notify me when the milk reaches the desired temperature. This means that rather than having to check it frequently, I can do dishes or laundry, and clean house while waiting for the milk to heat. The unit sends an alarm when the "food" has reached 10 degrees of target and another more insistent alarm when it reaches the preset temperature. The cord for the probe is a decent length, while the main unit is magnetized so I can leave it on my fridge, stove or even the sink and it won't fall off. The storage unit is well designed and it is easy to roll the cord and probe into it between uses.Three things:1. I wish the main unit displayed the temperature on the unit. As it is, I have to fire up my phone, enter my unlock code, and open the app (which closes if I haven't checked it for a few minutes), just to see what temperature it is at. Although I have confidence it will notify me, since the device operates via bluetooth, I do have to stay fairly close in order for it to work. I.e., I can't go out and work in the veggie garden while waiting. So, knowing what temperature it is at, allows me to calculate whether I will be able to run outside for a little while, or need to stay close.2. The main unit is magnetized and that magnet works well. They included an unattached magnet that is designed to be attached to the storage unit. Unfortunately, that magnet is extremely weak and was unable to even hold itself to the fridge, let alone the weight of the storage unit and cord. When I tried to put it up on the fridge, it promptly slid, then fell off altogether and rolled under the fridge. Fortunately I have a magnetic basket on the side of the fridge for holding odds and ends so I can still keep it near the main unit but the lack of appropriate magnet on the storage unit would be an issue for most.3..The unit will ONLY notify me when the temperature is rising and reaches the desired preset. As this is the application most people need, that may not often be a problem. It will NOT notify me when the temperature is high and falls to a preset level. As an example, in order to make yogurt, the milk is first heated to 180. It then needs to cool to 110. The unit notifies me upon reaching 180 with no problem. However I then asked it to notify me when the temp had fallen back to 110 and it failed to do so. Fortunately I checked when it was 123 and got suspicious when some time had passed and I hadn't heard any alarm. Sure enough, on checking the temp, it had fallen below 100.In truth, I love this thermometer and would like to give it 5-stars. However having read back over my review, I realize there is enough room for improvement that a 5-star rating is not appropriate. Nevertheless, I am overall very happy with the unit and it will be working almost daily for the next few months.

Just get a non-bluetooth digital thermometer
Worked well for awhile, but it's hampered by being completely reliant on pairing with your device for several reasons:No on temperature readout on the actual thermometerIf your device is muted the alarm will sometimes sound, and sometimes notAfter an update it no longer paired with my phoneThe LED light began to flicker after a few monthsIt was a nice novelty for awhile, but ultimately it's going to make itself obsolete eventually as they don't seem to keep up with updates. Your money would be better invested in a digital thermometer that doesn't rely on additional technology.

Pretty Cool
I got this as a gift for my husband. Its pretty cool how it works, we've used this device both on the stove top and the grill so far. Using it on the grill was a little tricky the first time, when he closed the lid the temperature reading wasn't accurate, so he balanced the lid on the green gripper part and then it worked, we actually had perfectly grilled chicken last night! Im glad I got it, and he is too!

this is one of the worst thermometer's I've used
this is one of the worst thermometer's I've used. I threw it away after a few uses because it was so off. it reads 95 degrees just sitting on the counter. I didn't wash it in the dishwasher or anything, I just rinsed it after use. I bought an instant read one that doesn't stay in during cooking and i'm much happier.

Newest App May Not Work, but there are Solutions. Read On.
I just bought this probe, and haven't had a chance to use it. I've been fighting with the App that runs it for the last few days. It refused to connect to any of my devices using the latest iGrill app from Weber. After contacting the manufacturer, who told me their devs are looking into it but couldn't provide a solution, an internet search turned up that this device worked just fine with the previous version of the app. If you google "igrill APK 3.2.2" (without the quotes) you can find an older version that fired right up for me and the probe seems to be working great. Will update this after I get a chance to use the device.

Works great...with Weber Grill app
This is very affordable and works great, but I couldn't get it to link to my iDevices app.Instead, I downloaded and installed the Weber iGrill app, which it worked fine with.

Don't know how I lived without it!
I mainly use this to make yogurt. It lets me know when the milk has reached 160 and then I can watch on my iPhone, wherever I am, to see when it gets back to 110 so I can add the culture. This was always the worst part of making yogurt for me. I hated constantly having to hang around the stove watching an instant thermometer. To insure that the iDevice probe will not fall into the milk, I use my Crestware Pan Clip that I purchased here on Amazon. I had to make the holes in the clip a tiny bit larger to allow the probe to slip through them but that was easily accomplished with a drill. Now it supports the probe perfectly on the side of a pan or measuring cup. Easy to set up and easy to use.
