Love this book
Love this book. It has a lot of information (more than my 10 years old can handle). Very appealing, entraining book. Good way to introduce kids in micro-biology.

Good Introduction for a Non-Scientist
I had no trouble polishing this off in short time, and learned a bit here and there. After I knew that it met my scientific standards, I sent it off to a niece. She should have learned quite a good deal (or a bad one...).

Science Faur Project
My great granddaughter used the Agar Kit and the Bacteria Book for her Science Fair Project. She made 100 on the project and it was a fun experiment watching the yucky germs grow.

Not a very good book, even for children, if you want to learn about bacteria
This is one of a series of books. I want to learn about bacteria, how to recognize them under a microscope, and how to grow them and stain them in a petri dish. Not many of us can afford to buy an electron microscope, while you can buy a light microscope for from $200 to $1000, depending on how serious you are. But more than half of the illustrations are either artist's rendering or EM images. They don't help you learn what bacteria look like under a light microscope. The more annoying factor is that much of the discussion revolves around topics like how bacteria cause disease and how we use them to synthesize new chemicals. There is relatively little space devoted to bacteria themselves.OTOH, it's a pretty book, and a 12-year-old might like it.
