Took off old carb. Installed this carb. Primed twice. Started right up

Installed new carb on Toro mower with 6.75 HP Kohler engine. It is a direct replacement carb. Installation was simple enough. However, since these carb's are self choking, I couldn't get the carb to "lean out." Very little adjustment. It makes the engine run very rich, thereby blowing black smoke under load. I should have looked further for a manual choke carb.

One day, my Kohler lawnmower refused to start. I'd tried absolutely everything to get it running (new spark plug, verifying choke operation, cleaning carb with Gumout, checking gas flow, new gas, etc), all to no avail. Since there's no further consumer adjustments that can be made to these engines, all that was left to suspect was the carb itself. I considered bringing it to a repair shop, but that would have likely cost big bucks. I'm sure glad I checked Amazon first, because I was amazed that a complete, brand-new replacement was so inexpensive.Originally, I had purchased one from a different seller. Even though the product description said it was compatible with my engine (an XT675-2034), it had the single pinhole-type choke lever instead of the correct slotted lever this carb has. Be sure to compare your choke lever with pictures of products you may be considering, as there are two different types which are not interchangeable with the linkage (I'm not attaching pictures, as another reviewer already has). I missed this detail and as a result had to go through the hassle of a return, while my grass grew ever higher.This product was a perfect fit. It installed in minutes, started on the first pull, and has been running fine ever since. It wasn't a like for like carb. With a little duct tape it worked for one use but it didn't last and is unusable.

Good Product. Bolted right up and started on the first pull--was very impressed! Lawnmower runs great. Our only complaint is that it takes 5 to 10 pulls to restart the mower while it's hot. We found that attaching a small string to the automatic choke mechanism and pulling it all the way the mower would start on the 2nd or 3rd pull while hot. Once started, let the string go and it runs great! Also, the mower seems to run better, has more power and pulls us around the yard faster than before.Be sure to order the "Kohler Genuine 14-743-03-S Air Cleaner Kit" and install it with this carb. This is the "improved filter kit" which eliminates the leak caused by the original longer air filter box which melted and warped on earlier models. This flaw contributed to the failure of thousands of earlier models like ours. We also discovered it is many times cheaper to buy a new carb and air filter assembly and install it yourself than to have the mower professionally repaired.

I installed the Carburetor, mower started but at much lower power. There are no adjustments to be made.Contacted Amazon for a return and was offered a replacement. 2nd Carburetor arrived the next day and worked well.
