Midnight Tango

Perhaps a bit too influenced by Strictly
If you're a fan of Strictly, you'll love this. If you're a fan of Argentine Tango there's still plenty to get your teeth into. Personally, Vincent Simone's later show called Tango Passion was superior as he concentrated more on the dance and less on lifts. However, this was still enjoyable. And he is a very good dancer!!

Midnight Tango - Simply Outstanding
Having seen the show live (a few times) and seen the show in the cinema, I have been eagerly awaiting the DVD to relive the show again. To be honest, I thought the show was good but the DVD is brilliant because it allowed me to catch some of the clever nuances that you miss in the theatre. Such clever filming to catch all the funny bits between the Innkeeper and his wife (Teddy and Tricia) as they are so funny and essential for the story. Although I was looking forward to reliving the dancing yet again, I can't believe how much I have missed the music from the brilliant Tango Siempre, they are not just the orchestra for a show, but taking part and brilliant compliment the wonderful dancing.Everyone who takes part in the show is wonderful and it is so hard to pick favourite bits. However the stars of the show of course are Vincent and Flavia (particularly Flavia) who completely shine throughout. Their emotional "make-up" dance in the second act (the white dress Tango Rumba) is completely extra-ordinary and as Karen Bruce mentions in the bonus "Midnight Tango Story" interviews (mainly Flavia and Vincent but Arlene and Karen involved too), it is only Vincent and Flavia who could do that type of dance because it is Argentine Tango steps complimented with all their other Ballroom and Latin expertise to create a Tango/Rumba/Smooth fusion where their true emotions are laid bare - even more effective on the DVD (because of some of the close ups) than sometimes on stage. During the 2011 summer tour, this one dance has reduced many people (including men) to emotional wrecks. The DVD comes with 2 bonus features, the aforementioned interview about how Midnight Tango came about, Vincent and Flavia's dancing background, how the casting happened, how the twist of Flavia playing her violin happened and of course their favourite bits (approx 15 minutes) and a short tutorial from V&F on some simple AT that are seen in the show, particularly 2 that are seen in the wonderful celebratory finale. As you can probably see, I could talk about this show and Vincent and Flavia all day - so had better stop now. However, I want to say one more thing: I can not recommend this DVD or the show highly enough. Of all the touring shows done by the Strictly profesionals over the years, this one blows all the rest out of the water - this one raises the bar to the next dimension. And at £8 on Amazon its a bargain!

A VERY PLEASANT SUPRISE.
I have just watched with great anticipation my Blu - ray " MIDNIGHT TANGO". I have no words to describe my admiration for this beautiful spectacle of Latin American dances, especially the parts of the Argentine Tango . All participants of the film acted magnificently. Vincent and Flavia are excellent dancers, with perfect timing, a lot of rhythm, movement, and of course, passion. The musical numbers are well known for big fans of this genre of music, but here played by a small but competent group of musicians in a freer, modern, vivid way, with moments of great passion and well rehearsed complicity between Vincent and Flavia. Simply amazing, completely different from what we are used to seeing in Musical Shows, besides not having audible dialogues between artists which use the resource of mime, very wisely to give a more tempered air to the dramas that will unfold during the Show. The sound quality is very good, defined and detailed with good dynamics, despite its low recording signal. The image quality is surprisingly very high technical level on my Panna TV 65VT50b, well defined, very natural color and excellent contrast for a nocturnal environment, in which the action is unfolding. I felt like I was there. The disc is region free but only for equipment that convert PAL system to NTSC system. Highly recommended for those with refined taste for a good Show of music and dance.

Excellent dancing but...
It's important to state first that dancing and choreography are superb! What's more a bit of welcome comedy is added by the two café owners ,which is a pleasure to watch as it gives a flavour not present in the dancing itself. The problem is that however well you dance and whatever care you take to make your numbers exciting, there is only so much you can do while dancing the Tango and after a while it unfortunately gets very repetitive. To make it less so it would have been necessary to take liberties with the Tango itself and I can sympathise with professionals who don't choose this option out of respect for their art, I suppose. It is however a difficult maybe impossible task to set oneself, to create dance numbers for a show lasting over an hour without sending the audience gently to sleep.

Flavia and Vincent totally brilliant.
Flavia and Vincent are brilliant, they are masters of the tango. Thought that a whole dvd might get boring, but there was some comedy and a story line. The other members of the cast were also brilliant. Totally enjoyable and one I will watch again and again.

You'll been Tango'd to Death
I enjoyed this but it really is wall to wall tango. It's tango porn really. Couldn't help wondering if old Flav has chosen other dancers who aren't as good as the stars to make themselves look good. The Flav and Vinnie are fab as always. How does she get her feet to stretch and point like that? I couldn't understand why they didn't show the co-stars how to dance like them. They're world champions and with that lot on the stage you can see why, not only are Flav and Vince amazing dancers, there doesn't seem much competition! Also, check out Flav's flicky hair. If life had been kinder, and I had hair like that.....would I be lifting that glitter ball? Erm, no.
